What are you watching?
Ghosts of Mars (2001)

A John Carpenter's movie, can't be wrong. And it was not. Watched last time more than 15 years ago, come to my mind lately and wanted to watch it again. Well, Natasha Henstridge was always gorgeous, Jason Statham wasn't bald, Ice Cube had the same face as in all his other movies. But overall the story was original, funny; acting was more than decent, music was good, and, apart few cheap SFX that erode a bit the suspension of disbelief, everything worked quite well. Sure, not the strongest JC movie, still worth a watch.

6.5/10

Dolittle (2020)

Nice version of an old story. Decent acting. Good SFX. Funny story. And I liked very much the introductory animation. Not a masterpiece nor a great movie, but everything was made in the right way. All in all, a good movie for the whole family.

7/10

The Emoji Movie (2017)

Dunno why I skipped this film - I clearly rememberd the trailer at the time, and that I wanted to watch it, so I took the occasion. Very good animation, funny story, never boring. Nice!

7/10

Sausage Party (2016)

Another animation movie that went under my radar... animation quality was lower than other production - like the previous Emoji movie - still very funny and cute. The story was original, and a lot of bad words, killings, and final "sex" scene lead me to think it's not a movie for everyone... you've been warned!

my DVD copy of Planes, Trains and Automobiles. the HD versions are DNR abysmal as far as I know so never upgraded

introduced it to my girlfriend last night. she really enjoyed it. it's one of my favourite John Hughes films. simple premise, big on laughs (Neil recognising Del in the airport lounge always makes me crack up with laughter) but a big warm finale that really pulls the heart strings.

Star Trek: Discovery (series 1&2 + webisodes)

Interesting new entry in the franchise; sure, nothing too original, yet interesting. And not too much "politically correct". So, I liked it.

8/10

Origin (series)

Well, this was really, REALLY good! Paul W.S. Anderson was involved - and it shows! - and it could have been perfect, without those ubiquitous flashbacks! Do we all need those in every. Single. Series?

8/10

Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)

I liked the first Jumanji, as well as the second film, so I can't miss the third. Sure, I wasn't expecting a completely new story, but it was nevertheless entertaining. An action movie with some fun is always welcome, isn't true?

6.5/10

Fantasy Island (2020)

A Blumhouse production = horror. Or something similar. But in this movie, there was a lilttle horror, and a lot of mess. I can't say it's bad, neither is good... dunno, maybe it's me, but this movie left me with... nothing, can't explain better. Maybe a second watch could change my mind. Or not.

The Mandela Effect (2019)

This should be seen at least to understand what Mandela Effect is (could be?).
A drama with some scifi inside, few CGI at the end; a simple but effective film.

7/10

Stranger Things (series, seasons 1-3)

Yes, I watched it all only lately, and it was great! Think about it as a mix of every movie you like, from Alien to The Mist and The Thing, through The Goonies, X-Men and you can have an idea of what kind of show you can expect. Sure, many cliches are there, but used in a smart and good way!

8.5/10

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

I can't miss the final episode, so it was time to take couple hours and half to watch it. And I don't know... sure, visually it is great, acting is OK, CGI is perfect and not "in your face" like prequel trilogy, but... everything tastes like it was already seen, nothing unexpected, something plainly silly... I could not say it's bad, but not good either. Maybe it was just me, expected something better, but I must learn to lower my expectations for such kind of movies.

Awesome psychedelic horror movie with Nic Cage. Maybe even the best 2019 movie (if it still counts as 2019). Not that there's much competition, but still. Comfy, beautiful and terrifying.

Terrifying, interesting, unusual, intriguing for sure... beautiful, dunno... when The Thing meets Annihilation!

I wait for my copy to arrive.
But I am intrigued, because I saw multiple different versions of that Lovecraft Story. So I am intrigued how it is realized this time.

Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad spinoff. Superb writing, acting and cinematography, probably the best tv show on right now. The blu-rays are also excellent!

Compared to my newly acquired DTS version. This film is REFERENCE GRADE for LD picture quality and the already great ac3 mix is taken to extreme newer heights on the DTS version....easily a top 10 quality LD contender.
