Thanx for valuing my opinion Andrea. I agree with the rest here - it looks pretty spot on now and you have a "green light" as far am I'm concerned
On side-note: It's nice to see this community expanding and, hopefully, inspiring "new members" to try some of this on their own. 2-3 years ago I had no idea (aside from Harmy's work on SW) that there were so many people doing this kind of work. Thanx to some of you, it has inspired me to learn about color-grading, fan-editing, restoration/preservation (in general) and as time goes by I am starting to feel more and more comfortable in doing some of this myself. The fact that there is a place where others give constructive feedback (instead of just "blowing sunshine up one's ass" by saying "looks great" - when it doesn't, or saying "it's bad" with no explanation) Kudos to everyone here that helps each other out in trying to make the best possible adjustments in order to produce quality releases I am honored to be a part of this now
Back on topic... I do have one question about the first image: in the test image by kk650 we see more details in Kevin Costner's outfit, specifically right under the belt where in the test image by Andrea, some of those details "disappear" by becoming slightly darker. Is this a trade-off for making the rest of the image look fantastic and trying to adjust that would make the overall picture quality worse or is there a way to slightly bring that back out? Sorry if this is a "noob" question, LOL

...out of thousand details, you noted just "that" place?!? contrast should be still fine tuned, but I did only color correction on a rush... it will be fixed for the final release - of course I'll post further comparisons!
About your side note: agree 100%!!!

It's hard to believe nearly 20 years have passed since the Summer of 1995. Waterworld made a big impression on me right from the start, with its scope and ambition a real attraction (as opposed to the folly it was popularly viewed as at the time). After seeing it a couple of times in my home town I took the train to London for a visit to the Empire Leicester Square, where I could view it on (then) the biggest screen around, in DTS sound, no less. It was an awe-inspiring experience.
It's been some time since I visited my old friend, and recently I've been waiting for Andrea's project so that I might do so in the best possible circumstances. Those latest screenshots show the film in the best state I've seen it since those screenings 20 years ago - the blues and greens of the naturalistic location photography are replicated beautifully, and the detail is far better than any of the commercial releases that Universal have half-heartedly chugged out. This is what this community should be all about. Thanks Andrea.

I'm very happy to hear you say that jerryshadoe! If there is one thing that I would really love to achieve here on fanres, its helping to encourage as many people as possible to try their hand at these sorts of restorations, that would make me very happy indeed
I agree 100% about constructive feedback. For me constructive feedback is so important in building trust and creating quality releases, I see little point in "blowing sunshine up one's ass" as you put it but unfortunately it is very common. Sadly it is common for releasers, usually with few or no releases under their belt, that take offense when constructive feedback is given and even take it personally, one can only hope that they will reach a point when they've done more releases where they will be able to see constructive feedback for what it is, incredibly useful and adding a great deal of value to their releases.
I think as a new releaser thats the very first trap you have to avoid falling into, taking constructive feedback personally. Take that to heart and you'll be off to a very promising start indeed

I must admit I derailed all my attentions to projects, following DrDre thread on OT about GOUT upscaling using Super Resolution... and I must thank him, as I've developed a new filter based on Super Resolution, too, that's very good - and improved the "old" one, that works very well in some occasions where the SR doesn't work so well...
Interestingly, this fact will probably lead to a better upscaled version of WW EE...

That's great to hear Andrea! You're very quickly becoming our resident expert on adding grain to transfers, a 'grain master' of sorts

Finally I got a brand new 4TB SATA HDD! A pain in the... neck to let it work on XP, but at the end it's here! I'm doing the first step - lossless version of HD-DVD video - that will be ready in few hours; after that, I'll produce another intermediate lossless version, ready to be lossy encoded later... wish me luck!
