When you buy a BD, DO NOT give away the DVD of the same title!

If you check out some old SD DVD comparisons at caps-a-holic.com you may notice that on some releases the PAL counterpart to NTSC releases seem to have a lesser greenish color. Maybe that is the reason why your comparisons seem to be more bluish...

Maybe. It's probably how the PAL format is configured.

Sometimes (and with smaller companie releases more often) it is also a mastering issue, like here "Dark City DE vs US" the german one is just mastered by a different company.

But here is a good exsample of the greenish NTSC DVD.

EDIT:

=2081&avail[]=1712&submit=AKTUALISIEREN&vergleichID=628&select=1]Image 4 here, compared between the US and UK DVD of Poltergeist shows exactly that the NTSC version seem to be more greenish.. or the UK seem to be more bluish.. regarding point of view-

Also, now I have to by add, that even old VHS can prove quite valuable, regarding projects.

I was pushed into knowing a quite... In testing movie, that seems to have a really hard to decipher release history.

Back in 1981 it was theatrical released on Europe, but not in USA.
It was cutted down differently in almsost each country...
Now there is a German BD, with a most compete video release, but: the English dialogues seem to be lost during time, so there are parts in the english audio track that are in German.
(The movie was filmed in English.)
Each other DVD release I stumble over miss these English dialogues, only an old UK VHS seem to exist, that has other trimmings, but at least all dialogues in English.

So... Even VHS can be very important to keep...

I guess Grease can be placed on this list. Aside from the Paramount logos and audio, only the 2002 DVD of Grease (not counting VHS, LD, etc.) has the unaltered film. The Rockin' Rydell edition and the new 40th Anniversary releases have minor alteration in the Frosty Palace scenes, most notably the blurred Coke poster being replaced with a Pepsi poster.

The sound mix on the Mill Creek Blu-Ray/DVD of Terminal Velocity (1994) is watered down, and it sounds like a flat transfer (with no EQ applied) while the 1998-1999 Buena Vista DVD has an amazing 5.1 mix!!

I wonder what the eventual Kino Lorber Blu-Ray will sound like (they now have the rights to this title) but most of their releases also include a 2.0 PCM mix (most Likely the unaltered Theatrical/VHS/Laserdisc stereo mix)

The Phantom (1996) has all the effects mixed down and overall is watered down on the BD 7.1 remix. The LD ac3 is nice and very punchy, and the DVD is seemingly identical.

that remix was done by Lionsgate when they were distributing certain Paramount titles. Drop Zone, Hard Rain, The Relic, were given 7.1 remixes on the Lionsgate Blu Rays, but thank fully I have the DVD versions (and they also come with the Dolby Surround 2.0 mixes that were used for their Laserdisc PCM surround tracks)

I remember being discouraged when I read the review saying they remixed to 7.1 and then the disc went out of print and I didn't get it until years later. I managed to finally find one and wondered how the audio compared. Night and day difference as the foley is mixed loud in the old mix I think to feel more rough like a serial adventure, whereas the 7.1 has great detail in the music etc but has all the foley and effects mixed down and thus they have no impact.

So those other titles had the same...hmm...I have Drop Zone on LD.

my mistake, Drop Zone is 5.1 on the Blu ray version (just checked out the specs on Blu-Ray.com), so most likely it is the theatrical mix.
