Independence Day 20th Anniversary Edition Blu Ray
#1
Does anyone own this yet?

What is your opinion on the colour timing?

Going by these screencaps I'm not sure I like the less saturated, muted colours.

What do you guys think, and does anyone know how this would have looked theatrically?

It's hard to tell... I like the screens, but I feel like I remember the colors of the explosions being a little more vibrant. My only color reference is the VHS and the Five-Star Collection DVD... I did see it in theaters, but have no recollection of the colors... I was, after all, only 11 years old, haha. I wonder if any reels of this film will pop up with the new one on its way to theaters.

I'm aware of the existence of a Super 8, of all things, from Derann no less. That might help us get the colours down - assuming we find a copy!

Often I say (and write) "in medio stat virtus", and it seems to fit perfectly here; what do you think?

"in medio stat virtus" = in the middle stands virtue. I get it, good analogy.

EDIT: image moved to postimage.io because imagebam doesn't work here, and in few days it will shut down anyway...

From top to bottom: 35mm scan from a sample posted by a guy on OT.com/old Blu-ray/remastered Blu-ray.

This examples will actually help me to guide PDB for his regrade of Die Hard With a Vengeance. As you guys can see, the remaster is closer to the 35mm print, but could use some more warmth to be a better match. Colors are less saturated on the remaster, but so are the ones on the 35mm. The greens in the trees are of the same shades and look colder because of the saturation, I guess, and yet the feel of the 35mm is warmer as there is some kind of a golden hue to it. There is too much red and saturation in the old master, and not enough of a golden touch to the remaster that gives that golden brown skintones to the characters in 35mm.
