I'm likely gonna need it. I keep hitting rather frustrating roadblocks with hardware, and as it now stands, the most significant hurdle is getting a capture of the analogue audio alongside video that's both in sync and recorded at a high bit depth and sample rate. I can do either or very easily, but achieving both at once seems to be a challenge. My digital captures are bit perfect at this point, but these analogue-only discs are significantly more precious to me in several cases and they tend to be on older discs that are perhaps more likely to be ticking time bombs (disc rot).

The capture software I've been using so far (AmarecTV) appears to be limited to 16-bit audio, which is a shame because it's otherwise excellent. However, I've heard others have had trouble with some sync issues in VirtualDub, which would rather defeat the whole purpose of doing simultaneous V+A cap. I've actually had some inconsistent issues with desync in AmarecTV as well, but I think what it might be is that I need to press play and let the capture card(s) and software figure out the offset as something plays, then put it back to the start and press play and record to get it in sync. That could be coincidental, I'm not sure yet.

It does however appear that it can get audio grabbed from devices other than the video capture card and still manage to capture it in sync with the video by working out the latency of that device. So I was able to capture video from the capture card and audio from my sound card simultaneously, and it appeared perceptually to be in sync even though they came from different devices with different latencies. I think AmarecTV is possibly doing this by following the clock from the video capture card and somehow syncing the audio capture from the sound card to that (the "somehow" may be a problem or it may not, I don't know yet). That would all be great except I can't record anything above 16-bit that way, so I'm going to have to cross my fingers and hope that I can also record analogue audio at 24-bit 96 kHz through other software without the sync of that separately recorded audio drifting away from the video.

I think what I'll try next is doing a full capture of one of the sides with both V+A recorded by the capture card (so 16-bit 48 kHz) and then redo the full side with the audio being recorded at 24-bit 96 kHz through different software (probably Reaper) and hardware (through my sound card, and/or possibly one of the two USB audio interfaces I've got). That should let me check whether sync is going to drift or not, latency aside. I don't feel particularly hopeful, but perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised for once... if anybody has any ideas / tips, please throw me a PM!

Password is "Captain Howdy's" real name

I can't get the video to open, no matter which answer I give it.  And I made sure not to capitalize it, but it still won't open.

And also, where can I find this edit?
