I once heard from an old friend of mine that there was a BTTF double feature run with Part II before the 1990 release of III, and those prints had the exact original "To be continued" cards at the ends . This could explain why they were film based because those masters the old home video and old TV airings used were probably ones they prepped for this supposed double feature run.
