#21
I know a lot of these commentaries turned up on paradox but since thats gone, were any of these preserved anywhere else? I would argue they should go up on archive .org!

Star Wars trilogy, Definitive Collection laserdisc commentaries, 1977-1983.

The Idolmaker 1980 laserdisc audio commentary with director Taylor Hackford

The Demolitionist 1995 laserdisc audio commentary with director Robert Kurtzman associate producer John Esposito and storyboard artist John Bisson.

Blood on the Moon 1948 laserdisc audio commentary with director Robert Wise.

Carrie 1976 Criterion Collection laserdisc commentary with screenwriter Lawrence D. Cohen and De Palma expert Laurent Bouzereau. This track came from a partially rotted disc and so the last few minutes of side 2 played at double speed, then triple speed, and then random speed. I've done my best to correct it, but it certainly isn't perfect.

Casablanca 1942 Criterion laserdisc audio commentary with film historian Ronald Haver.

I Love Lucy 1951 Criterion laserdisc audio commentary over a few episodes and clips, featuring Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, many other cast members and authors

Bart Andrews and David Marc. This is three different tracks.

Naked City 1950 Laserdisc audio commentary tracks. 2 different tracks, one by writer Malvin Wald and one by actor Don Taylor.

Sansho the Baliff 1954 Criterion laserdisc audio commentary with art history critic Thomas Gunning.

Singin' in the Rain 1952 Criterion laserdisc audio commentary with film historian Ronald Haver.

Some Like it Hot 1959 Criterion laserdisc audio commentary with film historian Howard Suber and actor Jack Lemmon.

Swing Time 1936 Criterion laserdisc audio commentary with Fred Astaire expert John Mueller. This track is different from the one Mueller did on the DVD.

The Comancheros 1961 laserdisc audio commentary with actors Stuart Whitman, Michael Ansara, Patrick Wayne, and Nehemiah Persoff.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame 1939 laserdisc audio commentary with film historian Paul Mandell.

The Player 1992 Criterion laserdisc audio commentary with director Robert Altman, screenwriter Michael Tolkin and DP Jean Lepine. Not the same track that appears on the New Line DVD.

The Wizard of Oz 1939 Criterion laserdisc audio commentary with film historian Ronald Haver.

It's a Wonderful Life (1946) Criterion laserdisc Audio Commentary with film historian Jeanine Basinger

G.I. Jane (1997) laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Ridley Scott. Due to a mastering error, this track was not ported over to the DVD

High Noon (1951) Criterion Collection laserdisc Audio Commentary with film historian Howard Suber

The Day After director's cut (1983) laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Nicolas Meyer

A Night at the Opera (1935) Criterion Collection laserdisc Commentary with film critic Leonard Maltin

Righting Wrongs aka Above the Law (1986) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with star Cynthia Rothrock:

The Arrival (1996) Pioneer Special Edition laserdisc Audio Commentary with writer/director David Twohy

Timemaster (1995) laserdisc Audio Commentary with writer-director James Glickenhaus

Show Boat (1936) Criterion Collection laserdisc Audio Commentary with musical theater expert Miles Kreuger

Cop Land (1997) Theatrical cut laserdisc Audio Commentary with writer director James Mangold. While the theatrical cut is on DVD, it does not have a commentary. Mangold does do a commentary on the director's cut DVD

The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) Criterion Laserdisc Audio Commentary with film historian Rudy Behlmer. Behlmer recorded a different track for the DVD

1776 Director's Cut (1972) Pioneer Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Peter H Hunt and moderator Joseph Caporiccio. A different cut and a different commentary than the Special Edition DVD

Dinosaur Island (1994) laserdisc Audio Commentary with producer-directors Jim Wynorski and Fred Olen Ray, and actress Antonia Dorian

Angie (1994) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Martha Coolidge. The long OOP DVD is featureless and full frame.

Blackmail (1929) Criterion Collection Laserdisc Audio Commentary with writer Charles Bennett, additional material written by Laurent Bouzereau and spoken by Stuart Birnbaum.

Boxing Helena (1993) Image Laserdisc Director's Cut Audio Commentary with writer-director Jennifer Chambers Lynch, producer Carl Mazzocone, and star Julian Sands. This is a different cut than the theatrical and the unrated DVD. No DVD of the film has any extras beyond a trailer.

Brute Force (1947) Roan Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Jules Dassin, moderated by Cary Roan. The Criterion DVD has a different commentary.

Champion (1949) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with film historian Bruce Eder. Not even the Blu-ray has any extras.

Legacy of Rage (1986) Laserdisc Audio Commentary (PAL re-timed) with director Ronny Yu. This was re-timed to sync to a PAL DVD, but it does not appear on any officially released DVD.

Mighty Joe Young (1949) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with film historian Paul Mandell. A different commentary appears on the DVD.

Nyoka and the Tigermen aka Perils of Nyoka (1942) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with film historian Bruce Eder. There is a DVD of this 15 part serial that is simply a port of the VHS and doesn't have this fascinating commentary.

Original Gangstas (1996) Audio Commentary with producer-actor Fred Williamson. The DVD didn't have a commentary.

Quatermass 2: : Enemy from Space (1957) Roan Laserdisc commentaries, 2 tracks, one with director Val Guest and one with writer Nigel Kneale, moderated by Marcus Hearn. The Anchor Bay DVD is a combination of these two tracks, an editor's idea of a best-of.

Scaramouche (1952) Criterion Collection Laserdisc commentary-interview. This is not the complete commentary featured on the laserdisc, which is a series of interviews with cast and crew, cut into pieces, but rather the uncut version of the interview with star Stewart Granger, that had been chopped down to 30 minutes, with all of the juicy stuff cut out. I combined all 5 parts of the Dick Dinman interview into one nearly 2 hour interview.

The 6th Man (1997) Laserdisc director's cut with director Randall Miller and producer Jody Sawin. Sure, this is a director's cut not available on DVD, but no one is legitimately interested in listening to a director talk about this shitty movie. BUT, in this case, they might be. That's because Randall Miller is currently in a ton of hot water for being the director of the Greg Allman biopic Midnight Rider, where, during a poorly prepared shoot, assistant director Sarah Jones was run over by a train and killed. On his audio commentary for his film CBGB, he and his wife-producer Sawin brag about the shortcuts they took to avoid getting permits in dangerous shooting locations. So now you get to be a detective and maybe one of Miller or Sawin's comments can literally be used as evidence against them in a civil trial.

The Day After Trinity (1981) Criterion Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Jon Else, documentary scholar Michael Renov, and cultural critic B. Ruby Rich.

The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) Magnificent Ambersons Radio Play from the CAV Criterion Laserdisc featuring Orson Welles and Walter Huston. Because of the convoluted way they organized it on the disc (half of it plays one one track, the last half plays earlier in the disc, on a different track, and you have to press play through the various still images), the way I've combined them is the only way to hear it as one full program

The Most Dangerous Game (1932) Roan Laserdisc Audio Commentary with film historian George E. Turner. Different commentary from the Criterion DVD

The Spy Within aka Flight of the Dove (1996) Director's Cut Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Steve Railsback. There is a DVD but it has no commentary and the disc does not feature the director's cut

Attack of the 60 Foot Centerfold (1996) Giant Deluxe Edition Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Fred Olen Ray

Bat 21 (1988) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Peter Markle and DOP Mark Irwin.

Citizen Kane (1941) Image Laserdisc Audio Commentary with film historian Paull Mandell.

For Richer or Poorer (1997) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Bryan Spicer.

Grey Knight aka Ghost Brigade aka The Killing Box (1993) Laserdisc Director's Cut Audio Commentary with director George Hickenlooper

Hotel de Love (1996) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with writer-director Craig Rosenberg.

Pursued (1947) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with film historian Bruce Eder.

Slaughter of the Innocents (1993) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with writer-director James Glickenhaus.

Sugar Hill (1993) - Special Edition Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Leon Ichaso

The Big Country (1958) – Special Edition Laserdisc – with William H. Roser on Jerome Moross' music, including archived comments from the composer and actors Charlton Heston and Burl Ives.

The King & I (1956) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with writer Ernest Lehman, singer Marni Nixon, and conductor John Mauceri, as well as isolated score and alternative music.

The Lawnmower Man (1992) Laserdisc Director's Cut Audio Commentary with director Brett Leonard and writer Gimel Everett.

The Wizard of Oz (1939) – Ultimate Oz Collector's Edition Laserdisc Audio Commentary with film historian John Fricke

Communion (1989) Lumivision Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Philippe Mora.

Darling (1965) Criterion Laserdisc Audio Commentary with Director John Schlesinger, introduced by Peter Cowie. Only the first side of the first disc had the commentary so this runs just over 45 minutes

Dunston Checks In (1996) - Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Ken Kwapis.

Infinity (1996) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director-star Matthew Broderick and writer Patricia Broderick. The long OOP DVD said it had the commentary, but it totally didn't.

King Kong (1933) Image Laserdisc Audio Commentary with film historian Paul Mandell. Different from the Ron Haver track on the Criterion LD.

Leatherface TCM III (1990) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Jeff Burr and actors R.A. Mihailoff and William Butler.

Leatherface TCM III (1990) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with writer David J. Schow and KNB effects guru Greg Nicotero.
These tracks were both taken from the LD special edition. The tracks were combined into one for the SE DVD, and so while the participants are the same, the comments will be new.

The Lighthorsemen (1987) Director's Cut Laserdisc Audio Commentary with producer-director Simon Wincer. The director's cut runs about 15 minutes longer than the theatrical cut. Obviously, this track is different from Wincer's track that he recorded for the theatrical cut blu-ray a few years ago. You'll find that track in the DVD/Blu-ray section below.

The Living Dead Girl (1982) Copper Sky Laserdisc Audio Commentary with writer-director Jean Rollin.

Scaramouche (1952) Criterion Laserdisc Audio Commentary with actor Stewart Granger, director George Sidney, and film historians Rudy Behlmer and Dick
Dinman. Different from the uncut interview I posted in batch 7. About 1/2 an hour of that interview appears here.

Show Boat (1951) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director George Sidney. From the massive Show Boat LD box set which includes all three versions of the film and a host of other extras.

Tom Sawyer (1973) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with director Don Taylor and composer-screenwriters Richard and Robert Sherman. Since the commentary does not run over the overture or the end music, you can sync this up to the recent widescreen DVD released which does not have the music either. This track runs just under 99 minutes, as I haven't included the 5 minutes of opening and closing music.

Wyatt Earp Return to Tombstone (1994) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with actor Hugh O'Brian.

Wyatt Earp Return to Tombstone (1994) Laserdisc Audio Commentary with producer Rob Word.

Is it the untouched version? Because sometimes the commentary ported from laserdisc has been edited or revised...

Hey ToneCapone,

Any chance you could make this commentary available to me? Have been searching high and low without luck for a piece  on Dassin I'm writing and keen to hear it in its entirety.

Please DM!

Cheers,
J.

Just heard that the commentary for The Thing with John Carpenter and Kurt Russell is censored on the blu ray but uncensored on the DVD. They've used alternate takes in parts, reordered some of it and removed anything controversial, included the sound of John Carpenter lighting a cigarette! Wish I held onto my DVD now.

Blood on the Moon 1948 laserdisc audio commentary Shocked with director Robert Wise.

Wow, I would love to hear that! I just got the blu-ray, which has a gorgeous transfer but sadly bare-bones in terms of extras. Could you send me the commentary track? Thanks.
