Looking for the "right" Predator color grading...
#31
I've seen "Predator" twice on 35mm the past 3 years or so, and the second time was just a few weeks ago. I can tell you that the 1st MPEG-2 Blu-ray is a good match when you set your screen white balance to "warm" color temperature. The collector DVD might even be a closer match. I'll look into that.

never saw it in cinema so for me the red sky rings true.

Basically I think the home video nostalgia version would be quite a treat. I have the UK special edition DVD of this and I never bothered to get another version.

The fact is, "warm" settings are not the same for all displays... so, it should be regraded to be "good" at normal, optimized settings...

Благодаря Beber, еще один рекорд был обнаружен в OM

So, that would be Russian for : "Thanks to Beber (myself), we have a new recording of Predator open matte." Indeed the framing on RTL9 gives extra picture on every side. To be usefull, however, it will need some overlay with another video to get rid of the logos and back-on-the-air pop-ups, and "coming next" pop-up.

It should be not that hard to use the other video to get rid of the logo (that is taken from...?); I wonder if the "coming next" pop-up takes the whole bottom of the screen, down to the borders, or not - in this case, it would not be possible to take the advantage of the extra portions of the image found on RTL9, at least not the bottom (and maybe one or both sides).

The pop-ups are accompanied by a black line (that moves !) from top to bottom, so... I know that the 3D Blu-ray is opened to 1.78:1, so using just the left eye might suffice to patch these shots.

Did anyone else see one of the anniversary screenings in the UK this week?

Fox's current DCP is direct from the 'cleaned up' BD master, it seems. No visible grain whatsoever, and Carl Weathers looked like CGI in the opening scene. Quite a shock to see, since I'd always managed to avoid the Ultimate Hunter edition til now.

Still, great to see the film with a (sold out) audience...

PCC in London show the 35mm print. Saw it once but it was 3am in the morning.
