[Idea] Breakdown (1997)
#1
This absolute corker of a thriller starring Kurt Russel seems to be in the realms of obscurity now thanks to the DVD going OOP

Are there any HDTV rips out there that can do the film justice? By all accounts it was filmed Super35 so possibility of an open matte version as well? Some of the international DVD's are cropped from the widescreen source according to DVDCompare

There is a high bitrate HD-Cap, which was slowed down to 24fps and the R1 audio added. This one is only available on UseNet, afaik. As a 2nd source an Amazon WEB-DL was made available. Both look pretty nice and are OAR

Great film.

I have this one.
I planned to do a project at some point but I have way to much on now!

It's available on the web but I forgot where I grabbed it! I think it was a Russian Tracker and I just stripped the assets I did not need.

Oh, wow -- I hope someone takes this on as a project! This film is an underseen gem, and it deserves better than the nonanamorphic DVD release it's been stuck with. Anybody know how the audio options compare on laserdisc?

Just found an open matte version as well at rutracker

Also grabbed the three disc soundtrack with the alternate score

Actually, I was working on that as a project but gave up since my capture ended up having strange vertical aliasing.

Lol I tried but couldn't make it work.

But I hope someone can. I love small self-contained thrillers like Breakdown, which is made all the better by starring the man, Kurt Russell

Does it have the same color timing?

Who did the alternative score? Whoever they are, competing against Basil Poledouris would be difficult.

PDB Can you remember the time stamp of that car grill you we're having problems with?

It's from a US cable broadcast so the timing is a bit different with the commercials and NTSC speed but I'd say around 11 mins in. When they are pushing the car to the side of the road.

I found a few different version around the web, one of the Russian site but even without the same problem, none seemed to be all that good.

Your copy seems better then mine the same master but without the odd errors I was having:
