188 minute tv cut of Superman: The Movie getting an official release
#11
What's the generally preferred version of this? I remember watching the TV broadcast of the extended version as a kid, and then missing certain scenes when I bought the "special edition" DVD years later. Not sure I've ever actually seen the theatrical cut, as I never picked up the BD.

Is there any information on what the source will be? I didn't see it on the wb site. According to wikipedia the extended cut was mastered on 16mm. Just wondering what that quality might be. In any case, I'll be ordering it because the quality will be miles better than any of the over-the-air vhs recordings available.

An interesting comment at HomeTheaterForum (emphasis mine) :

deepscan Wrote:"KCOP is a TV station out of Los Angeles. At the time of its broadcast in about 1994 (correct me if I’m wrong), it was an independent station. This is where the first known airing of the full 188 minute TV version occurred, and since it was prepared for international broadcast, it has gone by many names...the Salkind International Version, the KCOP cut, extended TV version...they are all one and the same. We now know that 35mm elements of all the scenes survived all this time, and up to now the TV cut has only existed in 16mm master and broadcast tape formats. This will now change since an all new HD master has been prepared."

... and, of course, this ...

Josh Steinberg Wrote:"The extended version is so long because the producers of the film made a deal where they'd be paid by the minute, rather than as a flat rate for the movie, so it was in their interest to show as many deleted scenes and trims into the feature as possible to jack up that rate as high as possible. I don't think it's the best version of the film. Most of the best deleted material was incorporated into the 2000 cut, and the stuff that's unique to the extended cut at this time is mostly just more, rather than being anything truly wonderful."

According to CapedWonder.com, this release is a bit different from the KCOP TV version. They are breaking all the details down

I use their Facebook page at the moment. I’ll see what info I can dig out though but so far, one 45 second scene is missing (Lex and Otis hanging out the back of an ambulance, another scene is edited slightly different and the opening music is different (same theme used that featured on the Rhino deluxe CD set)

To those that have this already, does the new transfer have the teal infusion of the Theatrical cut bd?
