Open Matte Amazon
#21
Despite the fact someone wrote this version has open matte/IMAX shots, it is actually cropped (has only few lines of resolution more on top and/or bottom): http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/128703

I wasted my time cross referencing the whole movie with the bluray looking for the Open Matte / IMAX scenes so I could create a hybrid to find that out, complete disappointment, wish these groups would tag their releases correctly.

There is still a small chance that eventual open matte/IMAX shot fell out of the comparison, but their duration should be quite brief.

I don't think so, I was meticulously running them side by side and didn't notice any open matte stuff whatsoever, completely cropped.

PS, another one which I am finding a nightmare to do a hybrid is Minority Report, so many individual Open Matte and cropped shots, given up at the moment, may go back to it at some point.

Actually, the most open matte version of Minority Report if often almost full.

With the AutoAlign tool, it may just be possible to find ways to auto-create IMAX shot lists, whaddaya think?

If it could provide a list for Minority Report using time and frame I would be a happy chappy as I like to use videredo to create my hybrid's as there is as little encoding involved as possible. Save me having to sit there watching side by side and marking down all the time and frame marks.

Great idea, I've been playing with the thought of using VideoRedo for such things as well. But does it have Smart Rendering? E.g. can it cut outside of key-frames, in the rare case that a scene change may not fall onto one?

I did try a similar thing with another movie, but not with VideoRedo, but with normal joining of h264 streams. Despite them having identical stats (seemingly, anyway), the resulting file was a buggy mess.

I should probably get myself that TMPGEnc Smart Renderer some day.

Here's my idea on how this may work: If the output cache file of AutoAlign has some readable/parsable form, I could likely write a script that analyzes the overlap for each frame and determines by a few rules whether it is open matte or not, then group this into scenes, and generate a cutlist from that. So far the theory, anyway. I'm a bit lazy, else I would have tried it already.

For example, you can check the four angles - if there are two or four black angles, the frame is not open matte.

Way too complicated. Why process the whole uncompressed image when you can just process a small text file? If that file contains the positional data of all alignments, I can simply check the overlap and see where the supposed Open Matte extends beyond the top/bottom borders of the scope version and where it doesn't.

I'd ask you if you wanna create such a file (I don't even have the various sources) for me to process, but I am not sure whether it's in a good readable/parseable format, so I can't promise success. Gotta check the source code maybe. If you wanna give it a try, feel free to send me such a generated cache file along with the avs file you used for aligning them. (this goes for anybody, not just spoRv).
