The Criterion Collection Blu Ray is already a tiny bit open matte (1.78 instead of 1.85).
But, I just saw these film strips:

Not only are the colors fantastic, I also am absolutely in love with the full frame framing. If anyone sees anything that has this full frame, please let me know. Or if you see the movie sold as 35mm. I probably can't afford it, but who knows. I love this movie to death.
I might do a regrade of the Criterion with the film cells in that auction, since I already have a little Brazil project going, so please don't snag them away, if I'm not asking too much.

I would think the early Laserdisc versions were open matte, but likely the U.S. theatrical cut.

Hah, horrific indeed, now that you say it.
My project started out as a simple encode, then I did a little deconvolution to improve the image and then I got myself the Dolby Surround decoder for the audio track. Now I got the regrade idea.

I see. Makes sense I guess, that it would be the U.S. theatrical cut. Still, would be a beginning I guess. Can anyone confirm? The Laserdiscs I see are listed as Pan & Scan, does that tell us anything?

If all else should fail, I'd be willing to use my own laser videodisc to ensure operational success. It'll be a while before my laser videodisc player is rigged up and all set to record to my computer, though, so go for it.

Hmm, I would consider it, thank you, if you live in a place that accepts SEPA bank transfers; I get my money on 30th November. Can you do that bit-perfect capture thing for the audio? How about the video, what would be the resulting file? Uncompressed is a little unwieldy for internet.

It's even in the name: Fullscreen Collector's Edition. Though, they also have a Widescreen Collector's Edition. It's apparently 1,33:1, but I have no idea if it's Open Matte. spoRv's list lists the UMD as fullscreen (but no idea if Open Matte either I guess).

I have the fullscreen. It's open matte but cropped on the sides. There was a Sony UMD release for the Playstation Portable when they were trying to market it as a portable movie player as well as a game system. That is 16:9 and open matte. I've only gotten as far a ripping the disc to my PC as converting the video is a bit complicated. (Another member successfully converted a open matte version of Casino Royale though.) AFAIK, the audio can't be converted at all, but it's only 2.0 and I've got the DVD for the 5.1. The video would still come in handy if there's a good HD version out there that has logos that need removing.
