I'm back to being confused about which disc we're talking about now that has this DTS lossless CDS mix, lol. So much bouncing around and back and forth ... my head starts spinning just trying to keep up.

Seems as if Studio Canal put the CDS mix to the Theatrical disc. Also according to that BD they released a HD-DVD 2 Disc set, that also seem to have that mix.

Here's a recap.
In addition to the known 1997 R1 theatrical cut DVD snapcase, it appears the original CDS mix was used on these three french releases from Studio Canal on the theatrical cut only: - R2 Pal French DVD http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/f36236-terminator-2.html issued April 1st 2008 in Dolby Digital - French double Blu-ray http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/f150619-terminator-2.html issued september 23rd 2008 in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 - French HD-DVD here http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/f150031-terminator-2.html issued may 21, 2007 in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 We verified the DVD and the HD-DVD and they indeed have the original CDS mix. The Blu-ray is shipped and on the way, it should contain it too as it is a clone of the HD-DVD. Other french past releases on DVD have the CDS mix but they are Pal sped up and compressed. We also noticed that weirdly, the french 5.1 mix, which is present on past Blu-rays and also on the new one, appears to be based on the CDS mix. We didn't check the german dub, it should be interesting to see on what mix it is based on.

I just checked the so called percussion with the HD-DVD. I have no surround system to verify the PumpGun-Loading reverb.
If nothing goes wrong I contact some of you (the ones, I am already in contact with, regarding the japanese DTS track) with the topic of the HD-DVD Track and also the first German dub DVD Audio until this afternoon.

It is strange that the CDS mix available in HD audio has gone unnoticed all this time!
My go to is the TeamBlu release and Im surprised they did'nt pick up on this. Ive followed the changes and various releases of T2 over the years, and I from what i understood any mix after the release of the Special Edition is the new mix! Mainly to do with the branching options presented on DVD. I also thought The R1 DVD was an anomaly due to an early master being used, so this is especially exciting that a lossless source has been found. And for that you can thank the French market that is vastly more interested in dubbed versions of movies. That lead to having two seperate discs, one for each cut because T2 is the only Cameron's SE that has never been dubbed in French. The Skynet Edition equivalent in France was the 1st time the SE was available in French but with the extra scenes still in English with subtitles, using seamless branching. Before that, we had one theatrical disc in both English and French, and a second disc for the SE only in English that included the EX/ES remixes. Thanks given by: CSchmidlapp

Branching was a problem in europe. First "Ultimate Edition" (Special Edition Cut) on GErman DVD was not branched. They skipped the Theatrical Cut at all, on the disc.
In France, they splitted it up: 1 Disc TC, 2nd Dist SE. Because there were not that much production and pressing companies that were able to do a branched disc. And that is maybe the reason, why old french BD and HD-DVD is able to have the old mix: With all newer releases branched the mix got unified from SE to TC, while back in time the SE mix was not avaible for the TC, and so studio canal mastered the old mix. And unnoticed.. well: until this thread, nobody asked, or cared for the old french 2 Disc BD/HD-DVD release, because, when it hit shelfes, the US SE BD, already was avaible, and the questions regarding the old mix were not that loud... Somehow it is like the One Ring: Things, that should never get forgotten, where lost...

It's normally the French or German produced media I look to for the best audio and visual versions of classic Hong Kong movies
So a colour corrected 4k UHD release, with grain added to mimic the negative's grain structure. With the french HD-DVD/BLU's CDS mix could make a pretty nice custom.
Actually the SE mix was available for the TC since the Ultimate Edition. My guess is StudioCanal just synced whatever mix they had on file. I'm sure they don't even have any idea there are two different mixes or that it was remixed.

Can we get cover art shots of all the ones containing the CDS mix? That would also be mighty helpful.
