Let's hope that the Blu-ray 2-disc set will indeed have the CDS mix on its theatrical disc in glorious DTS HDMA 5.1.

...

Even if the BD does not have.. the HD-DVD seems to have.. at least the percussion at the beginning is in.

Any hints, how to rip that track from the HD-DVD?
EAC3TO as *.dtshd track? or some different advice?

Sure, and that certainly is encouraging. However, just like you, I'm clueless about ripping HD DVD's, not to mention how to extract anything from them. So a Blu-ray released by the same company a few months later would be a lot easier.

My problem is not that it is a HD-DVD, but a DTS-MA track. Smile
eac3to handles HD-DVD just exactly as a BD.

Not sure if that's what you're asking, but the newer versions of ffmpeg can natively transcode DTS-HD MA losslessly to FLAC. WAV works too but it tends to not automatically set the correct bit depth for some reason. I made a tutorial for that over on Blutopia because it was giving me headaches and sleepless nights too. I can post it here as well if there is any demand for it.

In that case, eac3to is able to extract DTS HDMA, no worries there.

Actually, Stamper, now that I've relistened to the French 5.1 DTS HDMA on the new remaster, it does sound like a French dubbed version of the CDS mix. At least on my go-to scenes to determine it.

So... eac3to just demuxed the individual files from the HD-DVD.
The english DTSMA file is about 2.03 GB in size. But wenn I start it individually in VLC Player, it states its running time abbout 3 hours... may it be possible that VLC has some issues with such dtsma files?

VLC can only play the DTS Core of DTS-HD MA files, so you never really hear the lossless part of it in VLC. Haven't had issues with runtime yet though.

I've seen that kind of thing, yes. No worries, the audio track is fine. It's VLC that doesn't quite know how to interpret the information.

Is borisanddoris a member here? He saw a private screening of the 70mm 6-track mag. His input would be most valuable.

Great community here Smile

I for one did not think there was any better option than the R1 DVD CDS track.
It's great news that there is a DTS compressed version of it, and even more the hope there maybe a lossless encode.

It has always been strange to me that a soundtrack that won an oscar would have been remixed as it has. Not that i don't like the later remix's.

Might be worth inviting Borisndorris over here.

Late interjection.

@MrBrown, media players tend to hate dts and dtshd files, you need to pack it in an mka file (easily done with mkvmerge) before you can play it normally.

Quick question, to which video should the newly found CDS mix go? My go to version so far is Teamblu's regrade of the Japanese BD.
Is there a better version now? The new disc doesn't look the best.

That would be up to the audio expert that volunteers to do the resync. Whether it's Japanese (Team Blu), Skynet or 2015 US reissue, they all share the same master, so apart from a minor delay that could be easily determined, one synced to either one of them, it would be compatible to any other. There might even be no need to resync it if the French theatrical Blu-ray that we suspect having it also shares the same master. Maybe just a starting delay, and voilĂ . Now, there's the new remaster 2D/3D that has 4 extra frames at a scene change that would require another resync point, but the rest is the same. It would also need a starting point delay because of the extra logos and 3D credits.
