There are some movies that have not a known open matte version (yet?) for the whole lenght, but there are few minutes available - for example, found in the otherwise cropped version, in trailers, as IMAX scene(s), or other reasons.
I can list few of them here, but I'm pretty sure there are many more... - Star Wars: The Force Awakens - IMAX scene
- Terminator 2 - trailers
- Constantine
- Elektra
I wonder if there is some interest in watching a movie that is, for example, two hours long, that have only a couple of minutes (if not less) open matte - NOTE: take in account that with YAO subtitles hack, the "purists" who want to see it OAR can be satisfied.

Sounds a little half-assed to me to make a whole project out of it, but I see no reason not to include them in a project that was gonna be done anyway.
Do 35mm trailers count?

Well, it would be hard to insert a, let's say, 5s open matte shot from a BD trailer into a 10s shot from a BD, so 35mm would be even harder; but I do not see any other problems.

Adywan had made available his work on the IMAX scene of The Force Awakens that he took from an HDTV broadcast onto which he put the Blu-ray picture for better quality. It was not totally perfect as you could still see a "line" in a couple shots that showed the sky where the 2 sources were jointed, but hey, we never had better and, when invested in the action, you don't really pay attention to this.
I actually made my own IMAX version including it, adding my remade French subtitles hardcoded into it, and I like watching it that way.
I'm not fond of the YAO option. The interest in that thing is based on an erroneous assumption that the OAR area always corresponds to the middle part of the open matte framing. It's not! Actually Adywan had to go up, then down, etc. when aligning the 2 sources together.

Agree. But the OAR frames, "more or less", is centered - I mean, usually is not all top or all bottom, right? At the end, is a compromise to let people that think "I hate VAR!" be happy!
