Now I don't know if there is a better source out there than the recording I made a couple days ago on French TV, my connection being what it is.

You know, if anyone is interested in doing a UAR sort of thing with this movie, I can help get a lossless MKV rip of the Blu-Ray release (if the screenshots you used for comparison aren't from one that is) to overlay. I have fond memories of this movie when I was younger as well as the comic series itself so I'd definitely like to help out if the opportunity arises.

It seems that this is one of the (quite rare) cases where the letterbox version is just the full open matte version, cropped...
I'm pretty sure the blu-ray could be put on top of the HDTV "as is"! Then, a YAO subtitle file would always let the people who wants the letterboxed version happy. Two versions in one - just few MBs more for the subtitles!

@LucasGodzilla: technically, if it is a full open matte, the final result would be an hybrid instead UAR - just to be precise! Happy

@Beber: but, wasn't your recording with TV logo?

Nope, no logos whatsoever. Neither a channel one nor a rating one as it is a family movie. The only catch, if that, are maybe 4 forced burnt-in subtitles that translate some paper headlines framed in Tintin's study. It would require some checking to see if the BD overlay would hide them fully.

It seems, indeed, that the scope version is cropped from this full frame version. The scope is not always the middle part of the frame, though. See my 1st comparison in the market: the 2 screens don't align as is. The other ones do, though.

Checked the burnt-in subs into your other threads, and they should be full covered with the BD, it seems.

About the frame moved from the center: the YAO subs could be "follow" this trend as well - not automagically, sadly... yet, if the shift is, like in the market scene, few pixels, maybe it's not worth the hassle, and just leave the letterbox version "as is" - few lines lost on top or bottom, as well as the same lines numbers earned on bottom or top, plus it's position is consistent and the UAR/VAR haters could be happy! I'm not into YAO anyway and definitely not into UAR. I already have the scope Blu-ray and I don't need a 2-in-1 version. I can live with 2 seperate versions in my collection. I also noticed the open matte version has 1 or 2 vertical lines on the far left and far right less than the scope version. It's very minimal, like maybe a single black line left and right, but it is to be noticed.
