UHD BD to BD?
#51
Somebody asked the developer of ripbot on the Videoredo forum but he hasn't replied as yet.
Will check out Hybrid as well once my 2 pass high bitrate Grease encode finishes (which is taking forever), but looking at the app screenshots looks overly complicated compared with the relative ease of ripbot.

Which screen capture do you want, in what resolution and in what "looking" process?

Beber, it would be nice to see the original raw hdr screenshot's of Starship Troopers to see whether they are closer to the madvr or ripbot ones.

OK, but how do I do that? I make my screen captures with Media Player Classic. I know where to activate/deactivate the madVR thingy. But if I do deactivate it, I'll get the bland, dull colors on my screen captures. Is that the look you want? Is that raw? I don't have any HDR equipment to know what the actual HDR look is.

Ok, no problem, assumed you had 4k equipment (i'm in the same boat).

In regards to Starship Troopers tweaking, are you able to tweak the saturation / brightness in ripbot so both the spaceship blue light's and soldier's arm bands are as intense as the madvr one's, liking the colour on them shots.

Right. That's why we are both really into that new toy you found for us. I guess I can upload the UHD clip and give the link to anyone who is equipped and can report back to us.

Yea, suppose you could try that, not 100% sure you can get accurate 4k screenshots yet.

I made 4 different encodes of that clip, and if I increase the saturation to have nice blue ship reactors like on the madVR conversion, I'll have lobster skintones inside said ship, so I'd say no. I guess this is where additional color correction would have to come into play, hence Zoidberg inquiry about the lossless encode capability of RipBot264. There are hue, saturation, brightness and contrast settings. Maybe the hue can help a bit there, I don't know.

I guess the madvr colours are not natural to the source anyway as the skintones are also a little bit oversaturated and lobster looking. Maybe ripbots default is more representative how it is intended to look on a 4k display.

I haven't spent much time with RipBot264 yet, but I see it lets you set a CRF value. Set it to 0. That's lossless.
