4.1 in a 5.1 container? - A massive amount, im sure. But I was wondering specifically how this point break DVD 4.1 in the opening post, is in an AC3 container?
AC3 doesnt seem to support a simultaneous LFE and single surround rear channel. As far as i can see. I was looking to encode it back to AC3 4.1 after editing. I was really asking OP if he omitted one of the rear surround tracks as they would have been identical ?

Not sure if it's supported on DVD, but it is on BD. Ailen and Aliens both have DD 4.1 mixes on Blu-ray in addition to DD 2.0 and DTS-HD MA 5.1.

I sent the surround track to both rear channels and just encoded as 5.1. The odd thing is that my receiver identified the opening post original audio as 4.1. maybe just some header information or something? Odd how Blu-Ray.com even lists it as 4.1. https://www.blu-ray.com/dvd/Point-Break-DVD/2631/

Just incase anyone comes up against this in future. It appears Audacity Cannot encode AC3 4.1. Also Kodi Media Player will not pass through AC3 4.1 (outputs as PCM 5.1)
I Found a great little program that encodes WAV to any AC3 format including 4.1. https://github.com/wieslawsoltes/wavtoac...me-ov-file It worked perfectly in the end.

Extracting it to WAV files showed that it literally had Left, Center, Right, Rears and that's all. 4.1 should be just as acceptable. As far as Kodi goes, you might need to change your settings. The audio configuration in that app is awkward, but it should let you play anything. (2025-08-26, 10:22 PM)Doctor M Wrote:For some reason I never thought of trying EAC3to, what a screw up. As for Kodi, I realised this morning that Kodi Plays the 4.1 fine, it was a file problem.(2025-08-26, 05:07 PM)JB316 Wrote: Just incase anyone comes up against this in future.
