[No Longer Available] Flash Gordon Regrade (Universal Widescreen Laserdisc)
#11
I've just had a look through, and this regrade is fantastic!  It breathes new life into the BD.  Did you add any grain?  I wondered if that might make up for some of the deficiencies of the BD, which are already greatly reduced by the fantastic colors. Big Grin

Thanks Chew, much appreciated.

And good eye. I did add some grain to the luma level before I recombined it with the chroma. Basically to offset a little of the DNR. Normally, I don't do that for BD regrades unless there is enough DNR to deserve it. I think it did in this case.

Although to be fair, I find that most regrades I do look much, much grainier once I'm done. Since BDs are generally very flat (low contrast) and sometimes dark, when you boost the colors and levels it tends to pop out the grain. For example, I didn't think of the Mad Max 3 and Die Hard 3 BD as particular grainy but my regrades are super grainy. What grain there is in this FG transfer does pop out with this regrade but I did help it a little.

Ah, that's why I thought I could detect some added grain but couldn't be sure.  It helps, though I might have added a little more.  Smile

Looked and sounded GREAT! (Some of the timing and colors on the original bluray release ..uggg ) Having both the bluray 5.1 remix and laserdisc DS encoded PCM track is also a fantastic added plus, as being able to easily toggle between the two mixes reveal interesting differences.

Chew requested a more grained up version of this project. I originally added some grain in the first version but in this newer version I added a lot more in keeping with the grain found on early 80s film stock. It helps to migrate the DNR even more. I also removed all the soundtracks but the LD and upped the bitrate from ~20 to 30. Other than that, the regrade is the same.

I was going to keep it private but changed my mind as I was hitting that delete button. So before I purged the file from mega does anyone else want a copy?
