Just note if you don't have an HDR monitor then it won't tonemap properly will look pretty poor

My attempt at hybridding the lounge scene using DE anad TC.

does this mean you bought the UHD drive and successfully downgraded the firmware? It was a challenge even for me, an "IT guy" lol.

I bought the bluray boxed sets (so I have bluray and 4k discs). The new SLV is the only one that wasn't included in bluray format so I can't watch or rip it for experimentation. I will need to dowgrade to HD if I can get it to rip or I won't be able to watch on my TV. I can work with any scenes that were in the Theatrical cut.

I think the Make MKV forums have guidance to help with firmware.

I never expected a 4k version of the SLV so it was an unexpected bonus but now I know there is a 4k version, the upscaled SD outtakes just taunt me with their inferiority. :-p

It's a shame that they didn't put more HD footage of the Memory Wall in the documentary as I was hoping to have a go at reinserting my own version.

I apologize.. I'm not grasping what you're saying here?
I told you how you can rip the 4k and watch/edit it on your computer, no need to downgrade to HD

Yes I could watch on VLC on my laptop. My ultimate goal though is to do a hybrid of the DE with they SLV outtakes added back in a format I can watch on TV. I enjoy the character moments. I decided to compromise on HD so I can check the Deepfaked sections. They would stand out too much in 4k. Long story but I decided to give Janice Rand some extra dialogue. It sort of grew out of a desire to use the existing memory wall footage. Because Spock is off on his own, I put Rand in his original space suit and cribbed dialogue from Grace Lee Whitney's other TV appearances. It's a bonkers project but I just need the SLV footage to rotoscope Kirk's original spacesuit over the one in the DE and then to colour it red so I can do some computer generated onscreen dialogue for Rand.

Video is from the 2013 Blu-ray (colour corrected shot by shot, with added 35mm film grain to fix the digital scrubbing), with select few shots which were too problematic replaced by the HDTV broadcast. Extended scenes are from the 2001 Director's Edition DVD, upscaled to HD. Audio is from the 1989 Japanese laserdisc.

I believe there has been an SD version of this cut released elsewhere years ago, and that others may have been working on HD versions of it since - so hopefully this doesn't step on any toes. Others however seem to have been trying to "fix" the notorious Kirk spacesuit sequence where we famously see a large part of the studio set around the facade of the Enterprise. This project keeps all such goofs intact.

I remember having a VHS of this duplicated from a video rental store. I don’t know who duplicated the Star Trek SLV VHS . I guess my parents did. I’d like to have that download link.
