But with Amazon logo popping up here and there. The HDTV is cleaner. The Amazon has Dolby Digital+ 5.1 @ 640 kbps though.

So i’m Skipping through my R1 fullscreen DVD of The Abyss and i’m Thinking to myself that it doesn’t appear to have the red / pink CRT push that the widescreen DVD had and seems a featured the teal that I saw on the 35mm print. That was over a year ago now but had anyone ever compared the colour timing between fullscreen and widescreen discs as they come from different sources?

Yes the full screen looked better. However it still have the bad soundtrack. The only release with good sountrack is the asian anamorphic disc but it's only the SE not the TC.

I have that R6 disc as well. The DTS-ES sounded much better than the Dolby Digital mix

What makes the soundtrack bad?

It has no punch in either R1 or R2 discs, it sounds like bad transistor radio. I saw the Abyss restored in Paris and they synced the cinema sound (or DTS track) to it. The sound was HUGE. Even the Dolby Surround tracks on some DVDs does not compare, that punch during the Coffey fight was earth shattering. On DVD it sounds like a wimper.

Dude, I really don't get how you can have such fond memories of that dreadful night at the so called movies that took place in a stage theater. This was not at all the cinema sound, this was the same fanmade resync from the AC3 DVD that you can find on the Net ever since 2014, with gaps every now and then, the 2 masters being so different lengthwise in so many shots, it had at least 2 major desynchronizations (one when they come down to search for the submarine, the other in the flooding of Deepcore) and in a few places it even had line deliveries taken from the Special Edition. All that the audio system in that theater was able to do is making all this stuff even clearer. It had a pretty good spacialization, but I'd put that on the distance that separates every speaker, which is obviously larger than in your home, but that's it. If you want the real deal, stick to the Dolby 2.0 @ 384 kbps that went along with the original recording out of Cinemax or, even better, the Amazon Dolby Digital + 5.1 @ 640 kbps. That will be perfectly in sync and will have the actual content in dialogue of the theatrical cut.
