[Proposal] The Abyss (1989) BD
What's currently the best available version of THE ABYSS Special Edition?

*NOT the crappy AI nonsense from the UHD.

I have an HDTV rip that's a few years old at least.

I'm also looking for a matching original 2.0 stereo track.

Thanx.

The old WEB-DLs. I'd guess Disney has already updated their streams to the new masters.

There wasn't old WEB-DL of the SE thought. It only came out last year using the same master of the UHD and Blu, if I'm not mistaken.

Basically the recent, UHD/BD scan, only had previews with different doctoring and color timing on WEB of the theatrical cut.

Wrong! I've a WEB-DL of the SE from 2021 (that's when I got it). Everything we have now is based on the same old master, that probably was made for the original Blu-ray release, but never got out on BD. The 2024 4K/BD release got also nasty DNR work on it.

The 1080p version I have is presumably the WEB-DL from 2021 (I must've got it when new as I've had it for a good while).

Does anyone have an OG 2.0 stereo track for this version?

I think it's the best there's ever going to be...

Audio Repository for The Abyss (1989)

Theatrical Version:

Version A "140 min version" (5-min credits)

Dolby Atmos (2024 4K UHD)
DTS-HD MA 5.1 (2024 BD) [Downmixed from the Atmos, I believe, (nevertheless, it retains the OG Audio cues for credits)]
PCM or Hi-Fi 2.0 [1996 Fox "Selections" Full Screen VHS (Catalog No. 1561)]
DTS-HD MA 2.0 [2024 BD: [Downmixed from the Atmos, I believe]

Version B [145 min version with 10-min credits]

Dolby Digital 5.1
PCM/Dolby Digital 2.0 [1990 CBS/FOX LD/2000 Fox DVD]

1993 Special Edition:

Dolby Atmos (2024 4K UHD)
DTS-HD MA 5.1 (2024 BD) [Downmixed from the Atmos, I believe]
PCM/Dolby Digital 2.0 (1993 Fox Video LD/2000 Fox DVD)

Hybrid Tracks (a mix of TC and SE audio):

Dolby Digital 5.1 (Cinemax HDTV Broadcast "1989 Theatrical Version" trimmed the 10-min credits and omits the "Bling" heard on the 35mm/70mm mixes, 1996 VHS and 2024 UHD/BD when credits begin scrolling)
DTS-ES 6.1/Dolby Digital 5.1 EX (Chinese R6 Excel Media DVD)
Dolby Digital 5.1 (2000 Fox DVD "1993 Special Edition")

End of Lecture?
Thank you :-)

I have a rip of the SE DVD's 2.0 Dolby Surround mix, but I think that the disc that i ripped it from is corrupted because the length is 2 hours and 58 minutes.
