The Shining UHD

I'm thinking plain ol' HD sets would spaz out at either the resolution, the newer codec(s) or both.

There are UHD players that can downscale to 1080p and use tone mapping to do HDR->SDR .

Even though I haven't seen the 4K yet, the remastered 1080p looks just amazing. Details are incredible, color is natural, and black and white levels are at an optimum level for each shot. They did an amazing job on this transfer.

There are plenty of complaints about the sound mix and framing over at the blu-ray.com forum thread. A damn shame they couldn't include the original mono mix, there should have been plenty of room for it.

I'm one of those complainers that was directed to this site to rectify the situation by getting the mono mix.
I'm not gonna hurt ya

Which Warner logo does the new transfer use? It would be quite ironic if they've opted for a modern shield design again, given they've managed to use the 70s Bass logo on Joker.

Jonno,

Unfortunately it's the 90'ies static logo. It was a huge let down for me along with the lack of original mono. Thankfully, Colson, here has solved the latter for us!!!

Ah, pity!

Thanks for the confirmation anyway.

Let's hope Criterion does it eventually as they have Dr. Strangelove and Barry Lyndon.

One of the problems I have with this is that my Panasonic player only outputs MKVs at 60hz, regardless of the video stream's actual framerate.

This isn't too big a deal though, as my only 4K display is a PC monitor which only does 50/60hz anyways.

I also have a Popcorn Hour media player which can output 1080p MKVs at the correct framerate, it's far too old to do 4K but works well enough for my 1080p projector.

When I do upgrade my projector to a 4K one, hopefully it can detect the correct film cadence
in the 60hz signal and display the proper frame rate. I remember my friend's 120hz Sony TV could do this with 1080p60 signals, at any rate.
