Taiwan VHS was a VHS fan edit where they added two extra scenes.
The French DVD of the longer cut is 100% the longer cut.
I know because I met the editor once and asked him LOL
Also he prefers the longer cut! (HK DVD)

The Taiwanese VHS from Long Shong is running about 7 minutes longer than the French DVD...
So it would be nice to preserve that, if it would be possible.

But the scenes don't belong there. They added stuff not supposed to be in the final long cut.
They cut the main one where Danny Lee saves Sally Yeh, because it was part of another version of the film from early on during shooting, when the two guys, Killer & Cop were both falling in love with her and fighting over her. That direction / script was thrown out during the early parts of shooting, but of course they added it in the Taiwan VHS.
Other scenes are scenes that the editor decided to ditch in the final long cut.
He told this to me because I was a huge fan and wanted to know (very cool guy btw).
Said the HK video was the approved long cut, and of course you all know the theatrical international cut.
Though yes, a preserv would be nice.
I can do a remux of the french DVD at 23.976 if anyone is interested.

Did he mention if a negative or interpositive exists of the long cut?

Yes, the only existing copy was the one found by HK video which is a print.
As far as they know, most of the original Hong Kong stuff from the 80's is lost, maybe thrown out because the makers didn't pay for storage etc.

Like the French Extended DVD Version as SD Bonus.
Too bad there seem no VHS Rip of the old Taiwanese VHS, that even was longer than the French DVD.
Also there was a slightly different Version in UK with some minor differences. (At least one small Scene longer in the final shootout.)
I would like to add the scanbox DVD to my collection, anyone a hint where I can find and buy it for a reasonable price?
I think the japanese BD is the same master as the Hong Kong one, also the Korean one has the Fortune Star Logo on ist front, so I assume that it is the same master, too.
Yes I'll be adding bonus features. The French Extended Version will be on there for sure.
There's no where that you can buy the Scanbox DVD for a reasonable price. I looked really hard to find it.
You'll have to probably use some website translation tools to find a Swedish or Norway website that sells it, spend nearly $50 for the film plus shipping and wait a month or longer for delivery.
I could be wrong about this but I did look quite hard to find it.
Luckily, CSchmidlapp uploaded his version for me to use. I'd be happy send that one along to you if you don't mind downloading it and burning a DVD-R disc.
Of course, the disc is PAL so you have to have a DVD or Blu-ray player that will play it.

I am living in a PAL country.
It is more that I just would like to put it into my collection. I think I'll Keep watching my local Releases, also I believe that the Scanbox release doesn't contain english audio or subtitles.
But, thanks for the offer.
EDIT:
Maybe I have the opportunity to buy the Suomi (finnish) John Wo Collector's Edition #2 with "Hard Boiled", "the Killer", "Bullet in the Head" and "Once a thief" from scanbox for about 25 Euro w/o shipping, so shipping comes on top.
Depending, if the seller from Finland ships to Germany.

So, I pay about 42 Euro for the Scanbox release, shipping included (17 Euro from Finnland).
But I also get the scanbox DVDs of Bullet in the head, hard boiled and once a thief with it in a box...

Does anyone happen to have the Dragon Dynasty Blu-ray they'd be willing to share?
I've got some good stuff I'd be willing to trade for it.
By the way, I'm curious if IcePrink would be willing to share what he did with his version of The Killer? I never got a chance to see it, but those that did swore that it was the best custom version out there.
Was it just:
"QTGMC( Preset="Slow" )
Decimate()"
Or did you use srestore()?
