Worth a try, but as you said, the options in handbrake sound similar so maybe not. Is the laserdisc rip your using the one that's on the spleen.

Yes that's the one. I don't have access to it any other way and in fact that rip is what I used last time I watched the movie. That's why I did this project, so I wouldn't have to keep watching the LD rip anymore.

RipBot seems to have done the trick. It gave a bit of combing artifacting (the horizontal lines aren't too noticeable), but it gave me proper 23.976p.

Thought it might, did you select the de-interlace option as well as decimate, just asking as you mention combing. Both together ehould of got rid of the combing.

Yeah I selected both. It's not heavily present. I just noticed some horizontal fringes on paused frames. I'll render out a new version and see if the proper conversion makes a difference. I already fixed a small mistake I saw when I opened up the project file to import the new source.
