I saw bits of this restoration in a Youtube video, and immediately stopped watching to seek it out. I’m very excited to see it, and I’m delighted to find all of your other preservation efforts here.

I’ve always been weirdly fascinated by this movie, and even fantasized about finding (or making) a “least worst” cut with better pacing and a little more context for the action, but without throwing out Zeist, etc. I’ve always thought it was an extremely hamfisted “fix” to backpedal from the whole alien thing. If anything, it makes it all messier and even harder to follow.

Sorry, I've been away from this forum for a little bit and just logged in to find I had loads of PMs and messages waiting for me. Sorry to anyone who has been waiting for responses, I haven't been intentionally ignoring you.

Thanks to @devomk and @Solidus for the kind words.

I totally agree with you there; removing Zeist did more damage than good in the Renegade and Special Editions. Overall the Renegade is the best cut, but due to the removal of Zeist I find I don't watch it that much. Maybe if I ever finish working on the 35mm print I'll make my own fanedit to combine the best of all the versions.
Program material is recorded on the other side of this disc...

I can't wait to see your own version Dalek, and many thanks for all your efforts that you doing. I totally understand you. I mean this film it's Holy Grail, it's like Lego... what ever you cut or edit, it's still gonna be great to watch. Even the train scene is "film in the film". No matter how many cuts they gonna make, you can still see the baby (doll) flying between the people, lol. On Renegade Version they put that dude with the close-to-explode eyes (i don't know... Really). And the best part it's the dude with long hair, on EU cut he's watching Godzilla on his cyborg eye and with his right eye the face of Katana... Outstanding!!!!

I'll watch the EU cut now, but I'll squeeze the picture (or panscan) so i think I'm watching on VHS, lol (4:3 ... 1:33:1)

Thanks for your kind words, PDB.

The colours really are something on this print. On home video they completely re-graded the film for the Renegade Version to give it a blanket red tint to closer match the shield. Annoyingly much of this red tint still survives in the Blu Ray despite the fact that the shield has now been changed to blue to closer match the original lighting...which has now been tinted red!

The worst offender is the graveyard scene on the Blu Ray, which I suspect has been now been re-graded so many times that what few colours remain just look so unnatural.

As I attempt to patch up the 35mm print with other sources including the Blu Ray I suspect that I will become an expert at Dr. Dre's Colour Matching Tool!

It doesn't work like that here. You have to be an active member before that happens.

Also, a lot of people contributed to make this project come to life -
