Star Trek: The Motion Picture - Special Longer Version HD Recreation

It's really good, the different sources are obviously going to be detectable to some extent but a very very watchable video. There is one shot missing though (on my file at least), when I say missing I mean the screen goes black but the sound continues. It's when the Klingon captain says "Evasive", the weird thing is although the picture disappears for that shot, the subtitle stays on screen!

Ah, thanks so much for pointing that out! Can't believe I missed that. Easily fixed, will get on it very soon.

I remember those days. I had a Panasonic AG-1980 VCR.

I ground a string of VCRs into an early grave doing this. IIRC Panasonic FS88 was a star performer compared to others I had.

I would love to view this again. I used to own the VHS, but it's been years since I've had a working cassette player.
I just joined FanRes, but it doesn't seem to allow new users to PM anyone. So I will try an post to see if there's any way I can PM TheLoon to find out how I could view this recreation. Thanks.

UPDATE: After posting this message (or waiting a few minutes, not sure which) the unauthorized error went away and I was able to PM TheLoon. Hoping for a reply!

A few minutes ago I was (once again) looking for an improvement of my old
"Special Longer Version" (a DVD Composite from about 12 years ago, a VHS
tape before that Smile ) when I came across this site on google. I would love to have
a look at your HD Recreation if that's possible.

Many thanks for your efforts in restoring the "original Trek" to its longest version Smile

(I edited this down a little, your PM has the complete text)

The only thing missing from your version I could think of (and even that's far-fetched) is a small portion of a
scene that occured after 1:03:34, when Christine is baffled by Ilia's powers and looks away, down to her med-kit.
Originally she looked back at Ilia once more, for about 2 seconds; but I don't think that fragment of the scene is
available anywhere in any decent quality. The only version I have is a full frame VHS recording from years ago.

One idea I've had for years was to create a combined cut of the Special Longer Version and the Director's Edition.
There are about 4 or 5 scenes, which actually look better in their "Director's Edition"s version from 2001. Also some
time ago on Youtube I saw a reworked version of the scene when Kirk leaves the Enterprise and the movie set is visible.
In this new version it had been fixed and the set was gone. All this added together could be a "Best of both worlds"
cut. But that's just an idea...

Many thanks once again!

Very well spotted re. the Chapel scene - you know the film well! Yes, those seconds were missing from the clips in the Director's Edition DVD unfortunately. The shot of Kirk reacting to McCoy's line "How do we know about any of us?" is also a second or two shorter than it should be. But I think losing a few seconds is less jarring than suddenly switching to pan-and-scanned laserdisc video, which would've been the next solution, hehe.
