[In progress] Police Story IV First Strike HDTV fix/reconstruction
#21
Minor update: have upscaled the SD source in the hope I can use it to mask the subs. If not that, we might be able to rotoscope them.

Major update: As stated in the OP, this is really The Film Whisperer's project. I'm really just trying to aid where I can, but hopefully we are able to work around those subs.

I keep experimenting, and now I can cover about half of the subs. We'll need to use DeSub, rotoscoping or something similar to account for the in-picture subs without cropping.

The mask isn't yet perfect, but I can edit that.

If anyone can grab the web source of POLICE STORY IV from korean site wavve.com - this may help to you.
Looks like they have a 1080 version without subs/logos etc

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I was able to get the wavve version (see above). No logos, but some of the subtitles needed rotoscoping as they're embedded in the file.

What version of Rumble in the Bronx is it on there?

Maksnew was kind enough to run the initial file through his AI upscaler, and it's turned out some great results.
I think we'll use this as a basis to rotoscope out the remainder of the embedded subtitles and restore the few missing elements of the HK theatrical version (e.g. the location subtitles).

The international version (sadly). The only other HK cut of the films owned by Warner Bros that I found on those services was Who Am I? And there's a couple of sources for that one floating around already.

They look great!
Looking forward to this.

Pity! Like First Strike, I much prefer the HK cut with the original audio.
I'm assuming Paramount now have the rights to Rumble?

The Who Am I sources you talk about, are any of the clean?
I have the Japanese Amazon Rip and it has some burnt in subs.

Sorry for the slight derail Smile

Agreed, the HK cuts are far superior. Did Paramount get the rights to Rumble?

No worries. I'll PM you for the rest.

WEB DL vs Hybrid

To remove the Japanese non-deactivable subtitles, a German HDTV was used with the same transfer but a bit of a good picture.

I have also been looking for a WEB DL Amazon for a long time with the full version of the Thunderbolt 1995 movie. But every time it is not very profitable to pay for proxies for different countries, and checks do not bring results.
