Will it play the FEL part of DV or will it be like the shield where it will only do the dynamic tone mapping part?

No idea, as I have no DV TV, it was only what I read on one of several reviews; to discover, we must read all reviews of TV BOXes using S904X4 - I guess any device using the same SoC should behave the same.

The Zappiti Neo, the less expensive (800€) of the 3 new ones, will be Dolby Vision compatible for BDMV, ISO, mp4, mkv, ts and m2ts, regarding MEL and FEL, whatever that means, p4, p5, p7, p8 whatever that also means.
HDR10+ will be there, too.
No mention of AV1 in the specs.

I'm no expert on DV, but from what I understand it's made up of the dynamic tone mapping and enhancement layers (Either MEL or FEL). Some players, like the shield are DV compatible but only do dynamic tone mapping. There's also multiple "profiles" depending on use. p5 is used for streaming and is not HDR10 compatible, p7 is used for UHDs and is HDR10 compatible.
Dolby Vision is a cluster fuck and it sucks that it won out over the open and simpler HDR10+

Well, the Zappiti Neo includes all of those.

The Zappiti Neo looks like the perfect player for my needs. The only thing that would be a deal breaker is if all those features will work with kodi over whatever video player it ships with.

Based on how the current Zappitis work, the Zappiti Neo will play on its own via the Zappiti Video interface scanning all your collection on whatever hard drives, NAS and PCs connected to it, it'll probably have a HDD rack, and it offers at least 3 possible graphic interfaces. It's also a private network machine using SMB protocol. It also has a Zappiti Explorer interface where you can navigate through your drives as you would on a PC. You can install the same interface on your PC to run it with more flexibility and it can be used through cloud. I suggest you look into it, like on YouTube, to see for yourself how it looks. I'm waiting for reviews to pull the trigger, but having one of the current series, I'm confident it will be a winner.

Guys, a friendly advice: avoid to buy a media player now that has no AV1 hardware decoding; if there is not one with other features you would like to get, just wait - or you may be "forced" to upgrade sooner than what you may expect.

I would want something that can directly connect and sync with my Jellyfin server. Guess I'll wait for something else. Plus I'm sure spoRv's right and as soon as I pull the trigger on something something better with AV-1 support will come along.
