Striking Distance/So I Married an Axe Murderer SDDS?
#1
Two Sony films from 1993. The IMDb claims they were shown theatrically in SDDS (6 or 8 channel) but the credits and posters make no mention of this. The BDs are 5.1 (as expected) but does anyone know what tracks were on the laserdiscs? Were these multi-channel digital or simply stereo? Thanx.

According to https://www.lddb.com/ they're both matrixed Dolby Surround.

So it would seem that the BD's 5.1 tracks are remixes...?

Not necessarily, both of those movies were released on laserdisc before AC-3 or DTS were added to the laserdisc specifications. So while they may have enjoyed a discrete multichannel release in theatres the only option at the time for a laserdisc release was 2.0 PCM. Many titles got a later AC-3/DTS rerelease but I guess neither of these were popular enough to warrant a rerelease.
Having said this it wouldn't surprise me if the blu ray audio has been near-field remixed, the LD PCM tracks may well be better sounding

Interesting. So unless we can prove these films were ever shown in SDDS it would seem that the LD stereo mixes are the most authentic.

According to Sony own SDDS website, neither was released in SDDS.

Yeah, I thought the IMDb's claims were dubious with nothing to back them up.

Will try to get the LD stereo mixes then, thanks.
