Jerry, here you are the link to the test: http://xritephoto.com/ph_toolframe.aspx?action=coloriq
About calibration disc: there are many, even free; just search for
calibration OR optimization dvd OR disc OR avchd
on google and you'll find a lot of them... which is the best? Dunno! Which is the one I'll use to optimize my HDTV? Again dunno, probably more than one, because there is not (yet) with every tests - yet, because I'm thinking to do one by myself, with some tests I haven't found around (that could be useful for maybe 1% of the normal user of a display, that will translate to about 90% users here! )

Thanx for posting the link Andrea
As far as calibration disc is concerned, google is my friend and used by me all the time, I was just wondering if there is one particular disc you would recommend. If I find anything "that stands out," I will post a link

I've found an old disc container with maybe ten calibration discs, so they are ready to be used... not now, too tired - watched "Cowboys & Aliens", SDTV, great quality, I'm happy to have not spent ten times its cost to buy a brand new "simple" edge LED, which almost surely it will be of lower quality...
I'll post something tomorrow.

...as usual, I forgot to post something the day I had to, but here I am!
Well, I used many of them, because one misses a pattern I'd like to use where the other have it but misses others... at the end, because this model, to be perfectly optimized, should be tweaked using the service menu, and I don't want to make something wrong (yet), I decided to follow the easy way - normal setting menus - and now I think it's well calibrated, maybe few % points below the perfection (intending the best settings that could be reached using only eyes and service menu); I'm pretty satisfied, though!
And, you know what? After I made everything, I switched off the PC, went to bed, and next day the PC didn't recognize the plasma HDTV as second display... I tried everything - switching TV inputs, making TV display 1 and LCD display 2, uninstall and reinstall drivers, AMD catalyst, new versions, old versions... two days after, it worked again - even if the TV was main display, so I made it second display, and again, nothing... remade everything again and again... nothing... two days spent trying to solve it...
At the end, I thought "what if the cable is broken?" and the brain: "what are you talking about? it worked fine, YOU made something wrong, I'm sure!"... after disabling the brain (like Homer does every time) I bought a new HDMI cable and TA-DAH! IT WORKED! Damn cable, why, OH WHY did you stopped working? A cable is supposed to work OR to work not, and not work only sometime...
Note: DO NOT TRUST your cables... never!

OK, last week I've seen some movies on BD, but in particular "revisited" bonus discs to discover something I've never watched before - for the lack of time or patience; this helped me a lot, because, apart discovering wonderful featurettes, it served to light the usual idea bulb in my brain, to add two or three new project in the drawer...
