[Released] Star Trek: The Motion Picture - Director's Edition - The Anti-DNR Fanedit v3
#21
I have an update to this project.

First, I have fixed up the DE's establishing shot of San Francisco. I can't work miracles, but it's tidier now: the futuristic buildings on the skyline scale with their real-world counterparts, some sloppy errors have been fixed up and it's been softened and the color matched to the surrounding shots a bit better.

Next, I've given some matte shots on Vulcan an update. The 1979 matte paintings match with the big lava structure that they ultimately went with for the establishing shot (supposedly at the last minute in an effort to add some visual interest).

The director's edition went back to some of the original concepts for the establishing shot which better match the live action plates (and which I've used as it's very nice). For the subsequent shots it edits in a rocky background, which better matches the new establishing shot, but which feels very claustrophobic and clumsily cuts off the smoke and other parts of the live action plate.

This is my new version, using a digital matte painting of Vulcan from Star Trek: Enterprise (S04E03) in the background. This looks more natural than the DE and addresses where the light source is in the shot (in the '79 painting: lava, in the DE: nowhere, now the sun as originally intended).

There are a number of other little tweaks, (some of which can be viewed in the main album) mostly color timing and adjustments to the DE's effect shots (I let myself blur/soften them a bit more to cut in better with the surrounding shots: nothing major). The color of the shuttles during Kirk's tour around the Enterprise has been fixed in two of the DE re-comp shots and I also fixed a one frame jump present in the DE's shot of the tram crossing the Golden Gate.

I have also corrected the project originally using the British, rather than the American spelling of "labored" in the subtitles for the scene on Vulcan (I truly don't know how I did this or how it survived so many checks. I guess it was spelled correctly).

Available by PM; I will upload to Blutopia and Myspleen later this month.
