Viability of cheap VHS capture
I did a capture today. One section I’m going through I noticed that a frame has been added. In three other captures of the same movie I had checked the same scene. In those it added up to 12 frames. The capture I did today had 13 in this section. Is that device related or computer related??

Difficult to say... please list your PC main features, and capture card as well.

Keep in mind I’m still kinda testing stuff out with the new computer. The device I used is pretty old so I’ll probably change it up when I mess with this tomorrow.

Ok remember a while back when I was having trouble adjusting the devices audio level and I had to go into device manager to fix that. Well how the hell do I do this on Windows 10?? Going into the devices properties in device manager gives me no option to adjust the volume.

Nevermind. Fixed.

Ok a new problem. No matter what I adjust the volume to when I click record it goes back to the default level and i have to adjust it while it’s recording. Then when I stop recording the audio again goes back to its default level. Additionally even if I mute the video I can still hear the sound albeit very low. Is this a software issue or device issue?? I’m using a different VIDBOX device this time and the program is Roxio Creator NXT 4.

So I’ve made a decision. I can’t work around the skipped/double frame glitches no matter what I try at this point. Came close. One DVD I had a glitch surface within the last 10-15 minutes of the film. So I’m gonna purchase a new Pinnacle DVD Recorder and try the Dazzle in that one more time with the Pinnacle program as opposed to Roxio program Ive been using. If the glitches remain here’s the only plan I have for getting rid of them. Each time I do a tape I’ll have to capture them twice. I’ll test watch one of them, if glitches appear I’ll take note of where they are and simply replace them with the same sequence from the other recording. One thing I’ve discovered with all this is usually the glitches don’t appear in the same spots each time. Wink

Well this isn't looking good. Pinnacle Studios streams the video at a loud volume even if I go into Manage Audio devices and change the level. The audio stays the same in Pinnacle, even if I mute it! Contacting Corel now about this but their help was mostly useless in the past. Not very happy at the moment. Sad

I don't know if the following experience may help you, hope so...

After a LOT of problems with my old PC - the one used only for analog captures, after the new PC arrived - I finally managed to solve them.

First of all, I use VirtulDub for capture - I tried a lot of other softwares, and this is the best of all, at least IMHO. But it's not perfect, of course.

A very good feature of it is it remembers the last used capture settings; a problem encountered several years ago - that I forgot completely - is that, if you select the digital audio as input, and do not connect a digital cable AND a digital audio signal, it will stuck and never work.

Apart that, the other problems arise with the latest capture card I acquired, an AJA Kona LS. It was shipped with its own software, Machina, but, albeit working, and offering some options not found on VirtualDub, it's still barebones in a lot of other settings in comparison.
VirtualDub refused to display the preview, and also to accept any video input. I tried everything. Then, once, by chance, I discovered how to let it work. First, open Machina; it will recognize (obviously) its own capture card video signal. Close Machina. Open VirtualDub. Now it is able to recognize the hardware... don't ask my why! Big Grin

So, *maybe* there is a chance your hardware works well only with its own bundle software; or, that another software misrecognize the hardware as is, but the bundled software *may* trigger the hardware, so the previous software will recognize it properly... try to do some tests, and good luck!
