They screw it every subsequent release

think that's how mann likes his movies its like that in collateral too

I certainly hope it gets a home video release, makes up for a lot of the plot incongruities of the theatrical cut. I might do a recut fan edit, following the revised order of the scenes in the coming months.

Speaking about derailing, did you manage to record Blackhat Director's Cut from TV? There's no clue about any home video release, no trace of this version.
Again, sorry for the OT

I just came about this thread in search for information on the best audio for Heat.

Since jerryshadoe has been away for a while now. Does anyone else had access to the LD PCM track that he synced to the JP BD?
It would be a great pleasure if anyone could help me out to this track.

captainsolo,

did you have the chance to compare the LD DD x PCM?

On your previous post you mentioned that you would try to do it.

Has anyone have synced the LD Audio To The Recent 4K?

I don't think so as the 4K is a somewhat debatable version of the film.

Wondering if anyone still has this sync available? And was there any traction on comparing the LD PCM 2.0 vs LD or DVD's AC-3 5.1? Thanks!

Btw, the UHD's audio looks very similar to the JP BD track. Probably just a re-encode to 24-bit instead of JP's 16-bit? Maybe a few minor tweaking here and there. Waveform comparison: https://slow.pics/c/nRi9m76Y

The "Director's Definitive Edition" BD should be the same as UHD, given that they share the same audio codec and bitrate.

I've spot checked scene cut points between the JP BD and US UHD. They appear to be identical throughout the film, other than the JP BD having an extra 172 frames at the beginning (Warner Bros. logo).

Both are presented at 23.976 fps, so to resync from JP BD to US UHD: Apply a simple delay of -7174ms.

Spectrogram comparison of JP BD vs US UHD (post-sync), all 6 channels: https://slow.pics/c/mHJuZDol

For all practical purposes, they are identical.

Minor differences I can spot:
  • The UHD is filtered a little bit in the low frequencies. Zooming in, the filtering is applied at <5 Hz. Not audible.
  • The UHD also appears a touch filtered above 20 kHz. Again, not audible. Maybe the extra signal there on the 16-bit JP track is just dithering noise.
  • The UHD's LFE is low-pass filtered at ~200 Hz, whereas the JP BD contains noise(?) above that. Again, likely no practical difference.

What's more, Geoff D on BR has identified a missing yell on the "Director's Definitive Edition" BD at ~01:48:26. This is missing on both the JP BD and US UHD tracks, but present on the original 2009 US BD.

A few pics for illustration below. For all 6 channels and an easier comparison, see https://slow.pics/c/mHJuZDol
