LaserDiscs needed for replacing BD audio

Finished resyncing Day of the Dead the other day, definitely a big improvement over the stock mono track on the BD (high end chopped off as usual). Big thanks to bendermac for hooking that up!

I started looking at Romancing the Stone again with the new capture of the US LD I did. It seems the BD is the odd duck after all because I am having the same issues syncing it that I did with the JP release. There are consistently 2 frames missing at the end of shots on the BD... talk about a pain in the ass.

Ugh, so two frames worth of audio in each shot is missing on the LD? Yeah, that would be a pain to fix.

Looking forward to checking out Day of the Dead, that one is my favorite (at least for visuals, music, and nostalgia) since it's the first Romero film I ever saw.

Anyone captured the classic Rambo movies? Haven't seen First Blood Part II in a long time so was thinking about doing at least that one, unless someone here has already started on them. Don't have the LDs myself, but can hopefully find them cheap enough over here.

Got a new replacement loading belt for my Pioneer DVL-909 at a specialty store in Akihabara, and ordered a replacement grip ring from ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Laserdisc-Playe...3880325833
Hopefully that will be enough to get my 909 working again. My HLD-X9 is still working fine on most discs (hopefully the handful of problems I've had recently were just bad discs), but I don't like using it for just capturing audio.

Well fortunately it seems to be the BD that is missing the audio, so its a game of cutting down the LD. I suppose the reverse would be even worse since it would require a whole lot of patching!

I have both First Blood 1 and 2 captured if anyone would like to sync them. Both are from the Widescreen US releases. I eventually planned on getting them synced up to the newish UHD releases some day.

It sounds like the day of the dead mono Blu-ray’s were taken from an optical track it sounds a bit scratchy .

Apparently all the mono tracks have the same sibilance issues so it might be baked into the master?

Wondering how accurate the 5.1 on BD is compared to 70mm mix and if the surround from LD is more akin to the 35mm mix.

Doesn't look like it, the bdinfo says there's two DTS 2.0 tracks but I assume they're commentary tracks or something.
But even when a 2.0 track is included, it could have been de-noised or something as was the case with Jaws ( https://blah-ray.blogspot.com/search/lab...%281975%29 ) so it's always a good idea to at least compare to the LD.

Yeah, I captured the audio from the theatrical + TV cut box set ( https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/00202/PIL...Movie-+-TV ) and sent it to DoomBot a couple years ago, he should be able to send it to you if you want to check it out.

FYI on the 70mm mix, the opening narration has quite a bit of bass. really boomy as well. Fill's the room. the BD / DVD editions I have don't replicate this

There is a late LD release of Dune with AC-3, it might be closer to the 70mm than later releases.
