The Shout Factory BR of this film boasts both 5.1 and 2.0 DTS tracks which intuitively makes us happy imagining the 2.0 DTS being a high quality stereo mix from the original movie... however, they tell me that Shout Factory has also this unpleasant habit of presenting a 2.0 DTS which is basically the same mix of the 5.1.
I don't have this bluray but can anyone check these two tracks to see if it's the same mix?

I have to suspect that also the Italian track (which is 2.0 DTS) is a downmix then. I did grab the LD audio capture posted here but I had the impression that nobody had tested the 5.1 vs 2.0 yet, only that the latter was hypothesed to be a downmix

Safe just to use the LD for this project, we know it's correct and sounds great. I hate Shout for deceiving customers like that. They better get their shit together. Arrow UK almost always does it right.

I found this exchange from Shout Factory website:
Quote:>Matthew Irving
I'm a huge John Carpenter fan and have collected all the filmmaker's titles from Shout Factory. Would jump at this blu-ray, but have heard a rumor that the 2-channel DTS-MA audio track is a mix down from the modern 5.1 track and not the original stereo (which was included on the old MGM disc). I greatly prefer original 2-channel or mono audio tracks when it comes to vintage John Carpenter flicks, so this is a potential deal breaker for me. Can anyone help me out by either confirming or refuting this rumor? Thanks!

Hi Matthew--we used the audio supplied to us by MGM. We didn’t remix the sound. It should be the same audio as was on MGM’s Blu-ray.
>Bryan Tuck
Not sure what happened, but the 2.0 on the new disc is definitely a downmix of the 5.1, while on MGM's, the 2.0 was the actual original mix.
I searched info on the MGM bluray, it seems to have a "Dolby Digital 2.0 original audio", but is that of the same quality of the old DVD 2.0 track or is it at a higher bitrate?
In any case I think this 2.0 DTS from Shout Factory should be investigated properly. Not that I don't trust what people say but I still
want to believe
