The Fundamental Collection - Complete Compendium
Posted by: AsciugaMan - 2018-07-13, 06:34 PM - Forum: In progress - Replies (18)

Ok, here is the idea: make a complete BD makeover for the amazing fundamental collection with menus, multiple tracks, scene selection and bonus extras.
This will be a standardized disc structure project so it wil be usable for other project unrelated to the Fundamental Collection.

Now I'm working on a complete mockup of the project in photoshop and illustrator to share with you guys and get feedback.
In parallel I'm working on some intro splash screens for the forum logo and for the Fundamental Collection one, if you have any ideas, please share them!

Some specs:

- Multilanguage menu: available in Deutsch, English, Español, Français, Italiano
- Scene Selection
- Language and Subtitle selection
- Video angle option to see the movie with official/fundamental color timing*
- Bonus and EasterEgg

*still lot of WIP to make this work but I think i can make it happen, maybe on a 50gb/100gb disc edition to preserve quality, or with a highly compressed official coloring track just to see the differences.

  Replying to Multiple-Recipient PMs ...

Replying to Multiple-Recipient PMs ...

... adds duplicate recipient entries (skips the 1st original recipient and then adds on duplicates of the rest) when Previewing an reply before sending. In my reply to such a one, I had to manually delete (click on the "x" to close) the duplicated names. More editing and previewing again created the duplicates (that I again manually deleted before sending).

Here's a clue: this did NOT happen on the originating multiple-recipient PM, which I also edited & previewed multiple times before sending.

Good luck tracking down this bug!

Robotech the movie (1986) Fan restoration project
Posted by: Kalhi Balto - 2018-07-08, 03:11 PM - Forum: Official and unofficial releases - Replies (7)

Hello everyone, you may have heard or seen some of my posts arround the net (specificaly places like OT.com/Original Trillogy.com)
Just a small introduction to myself before the project, Hello, my name is Kalhi, in a 19 yearold video editor, i enjoy attempting to restore films that the public just dont have access to, and for the past 3 years ive been gathering materials to remaster the little known ROBOTECH THE MOVIE.

Only released (test marketed) in the bally-view Metroplex mall, Tx in 1986, Given an extremely small Home video release (argentinian VHS release, UK VHS release, a Netherlands Laserdisc release, and (only one copy known) US Screener copy.
The film was never given any modern release, besides a chopped up Workprint that was edited to remove megazone content, and added to the bonus disc of the A&E Robotech dvd set.

The film quietly and quickly dissipated as it was overshadowed by other films, such as Transformers the movie, and pirates.

The film was a re-edit of the Japanese OVA Megazone 23, witch was released the previous year in 85', and the Japanese TV Series, Super dimension cavalry Southern cross, witch made up the second generation of the robotech TV series.

there's a little backstory for thoes of you who are unaware of the film.

Over the past years i have gathered all material needed to rebuild the film from the ground up, finding myself (thanks to a freind) an actual tape copy (i originaly bought a bootleg of the film for 50$), i bought Megazone 23 on Laserdisc, as well as its sequel and its sequel's english dub (the entire cast from robotech the movie reprised their roles for it) and the animation that was commissioned for the film (CANNON PICTURES, the film's distributors, thought the film had quite the dark ending, as the main character basically looses the flight) so a new ending was commissioned, around 11 minuets of animation, giving the film a more lighthearted ending)
I also grabbed Southern cross on DVD, Megazone 23 on DVD and everything else needed, and started to work on the film, sadly my harddrive and PC died, so i had to start it all over again, a year+ later i now own alot more, Animation refference sheets, Soundtrack releases, and promotional mateiral (all used as extras) aswell as the original cut of the film (a 10 min Work in progress version of the film, witch harmony gold showed off in 1986 at their GALAXY OF THE STARS event, where the movie and the robotech's sequal series 'Sentinels" where anounced), that very early workprint surfaced in the early days of youtube, now i own a copy of the original master tape, that will be added as a bonus along with original television spots and such) basicly ive come here to see if youguys are interested in seeing this project finished and released, aswell as the idea of donating to alow me to finish the project, since the southern cross boxset i own was remastered lousily, with over exadurated colors (mostly blue) and a very blury image quality, i need to get my hands on the original japanese boxset witch wasent remastered, it was taken from the original broadcast masters, witch are of higher quality, and have more natural colors, this film has been a strange intrest of mine, so weird that a film would be worked on for months, and then just vanish all of a sudden with little to no fanfare.

sorry if the text is so dense, thought id give an indepth look at the restoration progress and the effort needed.

  The Sound of Music

I was always aware of the missing slap sound effect on the Blu Ray audio but wasn't sure which releases had this present. Bad Audio on Blu Ray blog has some good info in this. Does anyone have the ac3 from the 40th anniversary DVD.

Also while on the subject, is there any info out there regarding the laserdisc audio and how that compares?

  Spider-Man 2 (2004) Open Matte
Posted by: Bobson Dugnutt - 2018-07-02, 12:28 PM - Forum: Official and unofficial releases - Replies (1)

So I've found this open matte version of Spider-Man 2 on some Russian site I can't remember, but I've downloaded it and gone through it with a fine toothed comb and compared it to the BR. But first, here are some screengrabs.

I then took some more screenshots and stacked them ontop of the BR and found that some shots barely had some new info. (Blue=Open Matte and Red=BR)

Other have a lot more and appear that the BR from cropped from it

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) - theatrical reconstruction
Posted by: jonno - 2018-07-02, 05:43 AM - Forum: Released - Replies (14)

In the vein of my earlier Where Eagles Dare project, this reconstruction attempts to recreate the experience of viewing Star Trek: The Motion Picture at a UK cinema from 1979 to 1980. The video and audio sources used for the main feature are as close as possible to those originally seen and heard on release, and the movie is preceded by a reel of vintage ads and trailers to recapture the feel of a cinema visit in the late 70s.

The Film
Paramount's 2009 Blu-ray of ST:TMP was clean and reasonably detailed, but excessive DNR left a very digital-looking finish, with colour that was either revisionist or simply ignorant as to the original look. Fortunately, Sky's HDTV broadcasts come from an altogether different master, whose grain and colour (as well as a fair bit of print wear and dirt!) present a considerably more authentic experience (see various other threads for discussions of these sources' relative merits, most recently iguanaclerk's sterling work on the DC version).

Aside from moderate compression artefacting, Sky's broadcast has one other major shortcoming: the subtitles for the alien language scenes, which have been cheaply rendered in a generic Trek-ish font. Fortunately, the Blu-ray - while no more authentic in this regard - uses softsubs for those scenes, so it was possible to replicate the original font and placement using the 1991 widescreen laserdisc (https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/11219/LV8...on-Picture) as a reference.

The same laserdisc provides the main audio track for this release, a stereo PCM transfer of the theatrical Dolby Stereo. The TrueHD 7.1 from the BD is included as a second track for those who prefer a more modern soundfield. (It's worth noting that, while 70mm 6-track prints existed, they weren't used during the original run - the best experience available at the time would have been the 35mm Dolby Stereo).

Naturally, this is the theatrical edit.

The Intro
The original Star Trek movies were initially distributed by CIC in the UK (UIP for the later instalments). The ABC cinema chain had priority for this series, so those cinemas (along with the Empire in Leicester Square) would have been the most likely places to have seen TMP in December 1979.

Along with ads and trailers, I've also included one of the last Movietone newsreels from that year.

Big thanks:
Chewtobacca for help with the framerate-corrected Sky HD source
ILoveWaterslides for the CIC logo recreation

Now up at the 'spleen.

  35mm film scans
Posted by: SiMull69 - 2018-07-01, 11:57 AM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (1)

Hello, I so miss a decent 35mm movie presentation so I'm looking to obtain any complete movie 35mm film scans to watch at home. Can anyone help please?

One in particular is Ghostbuster which appears to have been incredibly captured for prosperity. Not privileged to the sites where these beauties appear to be available unfortunately.

Happy to contribute to any completed or new projects.

Thanks in advance.
