I'm looking for a decent Mac DVD Ripper. I've seen a bunch, but all seem to be 5min demo types.

I was looking at MacX DVD Ripper, but their purchase page shows an image of PayPal but when I went to fill in my details, they wanted credit card details and no PayPal option. It also says 24/7 support which I've emailed, but no reply to my PayPal question.

So, what Mac DVD rippers do you use?

Stumbled onto this site whilst researching open matte features. Was very pleased to see a blog post I wrote regarding comparisons between grading and aspect for Terminator 2 was being discussed. Fantastic to find technical people putting together stuff, restoring and archiving stuff.

Big fan of Terminator 2, Aliens, Lost Boys, Labyrinth, Flight Of The Navigator and Tron. I have a handful of import laserdiscs and on the hunt for the ultimate UAR version of Terminator 2 (which I've seen a 2 minute version of by spoRv and was very impressed!).

Star Trek 2 The Wrath Of Khan Regrade (Paramount Widescreen Laserdisc v1.0)

Project Info:
This is part three in my series of laserdisc to Blu-ray regrades. Taking the color of the laserdisc and applying it to the HD of the BD. ST2 came up not because the new BD is bad, in fact it's excellent outside of being a little too dark, but because the colors of the LD were very different. The LD is very warm with oranges/red and greens but also much brighter making it a sometimes a more pleasing watch. Think of this as a fun alternative to the current BD.

Just like other LD regrades, I am going to reduce the saturation of the LD a bit and tweak the reds to be less blooming.

Note: This is theatrical cut only and will be in sync with the TC BD for adding additional soundtracks and subs

(I have several of these planned, regrade to LDs or DVDs where the soundtracks are already in sync but will re-focus on the projects I have to finish soundtrack syncing soon....and MM2)

First of all, thanks to Evit for his wonderful blog about Italian dubbings: it is a precious source of info, and very funny! So, my idea is originated by his own blog.

We, not-native-speakers who watch movies (series, documentaries etc) in another language, got them usually in one of these "flavours":
- dubbed (each actor with his/her voice, normal for the Italian market, and not only)
- voiceover (usually a single voice for any actor, like the dreadful "lektor" in Poland or Russia; we in Italy usually have this for docs or news)
- subtitles (mostly used on northern Europe and in many other countries, I guess)

Now, leaving out voiceover, we (read: this forum's member) could work to fix translations errors, I guess...

Subtitles should be simplers: just fix the soft subs (or replace a "bad" one with a "right" one, like we do with audio tracks)

More difficult would be to "fix" dubbing... it is not easy to extract perfectly a voice from an audio track, yet is not impossible... still, it is quite difficult to find out one that has a voice very similar to the original dubber... but, sometimes it would (could?) be preferable to have a slightly different voice that "tells the right thing", instead a perfect voice that tells something plainly wrong/out of place...

Dunno if such kind of work is feasible and worth the hassle, but, as a fan of good dubbing (in particular of the one made some time ago, when sometimes the dubber voices were great and so similar to the original, if not better), it will be nice to fix very few wrong things to get a "perfect" dubbing...

Considering how I didn't even notice this for a few days, I just thought I'd make up for that now.

To keep things simple, I'm a young Californian who's into horror movies and am heavily interested in seeing workprints and fan-edits of films for the sake of viewing them.

I may not be much help when it comes to the technical aspects of all these movies so don't expect much from me. I'm just here to just enjoy the forum and see what everyone here's got to show and offer.

I was watching Creepshow this week and something is seriously off with the stereo track. Some of the music and effects are way too loud and the vocal volumes vary like crazy. This doesn't sound like a mix from the 80s, more like a modern one.

Apparently the original theatrical mix is stereo but dvdcompare states that the French and Scandinavian DVD releases had English mono tracks. Does anyone have these? And do they suffer the same dynamics as the stereo?

So since my beloved xbr960 is still out and my 955 has the fried hdmi I've been looking for a used plasma to be my main TV since I can't afford an OLED. The only trouble is that I can't find a good late Panasonic and when I do they go for several hundred dollars which could buy a brand new 4k tv like a TCl or I could save a bit more and get a small 4K TCL p series etc. with HDR.
My question is, would I be better off with a midgrade 4K set or a plasma? I know legacy stuff won't look so hot so I've got the 955 for that, but in terms of 720p and up can a midgrade 4k led do relatively well?

I was really hoping to find a plasma to match or surpass my xbr960 and I'm aware that plasmas still handle motion far better than even OLED can.

Of course I'd love to just go and get a refurbed Epson 1080p HT projector for now.

This project is canceled since I remember this movie is terrible and I didn't want to waste the time.

As anyone worked on Solo yet? I was trying to watch it and I think the picture needs a lot of work.

Putting aside the quality of the movie, the video is absolutely the worst looking movie that I have seen in a long time. I'm fine with the movie looking dark, that was one of the common complaints, but everything else about the picture looks terrible. The blacks are gray and muddy, there is next to no contrast, the colors are terribly muted even when they are meant to stand out (blues or reds) and there is a horrible vignetting across most of the film.

It's almost as they took the RAW files out of the camera and did nothing with them. I expect that of youtube videos but not a multi million dollar film. Even one with as much trouble as this one had.

Even without changing the colors, some small tweaks like adjusting black levels, using curves, upping saturation, shadow work, etc, can make a big difference. You can get a much better picture.
