Is there anyway to separate chrominance from luminance channels?
I want to use super resolution software to reconstruct lost chrominance.

Hi there!

My first post, of many more to come, I hope. Following an invite from spoRv, I'm very much delighted and honoured to be here. I've spotted many a familiar face from OT.com, so already I feel right at home.  Smile

I'm looking forward to being a part of this community and contributing in any way I can to help with restorations.

  display colors are "wrong"
Posted by: spoRv - 2019-01-13, 01:16 PM - Forum: General technical discussions - Replies (12)

Few days ago Colson did this comparison:
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/127071
and I thought: "well, yes, it's from DCP, so details should be better... yet, snow is not blue, but green..."
Then, today, watching the same comparison on my phone, snow is not green anymore, but white!

AFAIK my display (UHD FALD) was well calibrated... so, now, I am asking myself: is it NOT well calibrated - and colors are wrong? Or the phone display the colors wrongly, and the DCP snow is indeed green?

This is a VERY important question... because, if the former is true, all my projects are at risk of being wrong, color wise! Eek

  Amazon Prime
Posted by: maksnew - 2019-01-11, 03:45 PM - Forum: Everything else... - No Replies

After the new year, Amazon US (amazon.com) started blocking Russian accounts while trying to connect free trial versions of Prime channels from their service.
In this regard, the opportunity to get free movies from these channels was lost.
As a film fan in Open Matte, I decided not to despair and ask for help from kind people)
In fact, everything is very simple, after registering at amazon.com and connecting the free trial time using the STARZ subscription from your account, I will only need cookie data, I will not need any passwords and logins, I will need a free subscription for about a day, after it can be disabled to not pay after the end of the trial period.
If somebody is ready to help me, then in the Personal Message I will tell you in more detail what needs to be done.

  Boomerang streaming captures
Posted by: monks19 - 2019-01-11, 11:54 AM - Forum: Capture and rip - No Replies

Hi. I'm looking for a way to capture successfully videos from the Boomerang streaming website. I tried both ReplayMedia Catcher and Internet download Manager unsuccessfully, Does anybody here know how to do this ?

Here's a link for exemple: https://watch.boomerang.com/watch/1/1 (be careful, only accessible from the USA only. I had to use a VPN to access it).

Thanks to answer

Blu-ray burner drives and region coding?
Posted by: NeonBible - 2019-01-11, 11:40 AM - Forum: General technical discussions - Replies (4)

Is region coding an issue when ripping Blu-rays?

I am considering buying one to rip audio tracks (mostly original mixes) and archiving them for project use. But I have a mix of Region A and B (mostly the latter) discs.

Tools and settings for compressing x264?
Posted by: NeonBible - 2019-01-11, 11:38 AM - Forum: Converting, encoding, authoring - Replies (1)

I still don't have a BD burner and I have gathered a few fan projects which sit on my backup HDD. They are around 20-25gb each.

I tend to have a smaller portable HDD for watching media on my TV. I would like to compress some of these videos with optimal settings.

I am looking at settings to convert a 1080p down to around 8gb. And also settings to go down to 720p at around 4gb. Both of these are excluding audio which I will leave completely untouched.

FFmpeg would be the tool for the job right? What commands might I use to achieve the above at the best video quality?

  Alien - 40th Anniversary Screenings
Posted by: Bigrob - 2019-01-10, 12:49 PM - Forum: Movies, TV shows and other - Replies (90)

Alien is getting a new 4K restoration (audio and video!) and is heading back to the big screen in March 2019!

https://coyotepr.uk/films/alien-returns-...niversary/

I wonder if they have remixed the audio into Atmos for this new release?

Means a UHD release will be on the horizon.
