Hi, there are many differences it's almost like a different movie. There is an extended open matte version and a cropped theatrical version.
Is there an official open matte extended version? If not, a fan should make a hybrid open matte extended version.

I own both on Bluray but I do not know if the Extended Version is open matte or not. It is a far better experience than the theatrical version though.

Agreed.
Goes to show how much ordering a cut to squeeze a few more showings in a day can do to hurt your product.
Had the extended cut been released in the first place I believe there would have been much less of a backlash.
Still has the problem of them trying to squeeze to much extended universe winks into it, which I also think would have been best left out. It's a pitty everybody thinks they have to copy Marvel to compete!
I had no idea there was an extended Open Matte! Or is there? Your post is a little confusing.

If I'm not wrong, there isn't an open matte version of the whole film, but only of the IMAX scenes.
The BD has the theatrical IMAX version, while the WEB-dl has the extended IMAX version.

I thought there were only 3 versions.
Non-open-matte Theatrical cut
Open-matte Theatrical cut
Non-open-matte Extended cut

It seems so, but it should be not all the WEB-DL versions - most should be OAR, again, AFAIK.

Hey, I'm a member on OT - came across this when looking for more info on that TDK regrade...
Anyway I've been trying to get a 16:9 IMAX restoration of the extended cut for ages and looks like now we are pretty close. A group of Russians on a torrent tracker managed to obtain the broadcast version of the extended and theatrical cuts from a VOD service (ivi.ru) in 1080p, which they have edited together with the retail Blu-ray. The only issue is to try and somehow improve the quality of the IMAX footage by overlaying the retail 2.40:1 Blu-ray (and regrading to match etc) and somehow try remove the hardcoded Russian subs for on screen text that appear in the opening and epilogue IMAX sequences - adywan did a fantastic job on The Force Awakens' IMAX sequence and I was wondering if there was someone that would be able to try and achieve something similar?
