Just got into an argument over FLAC vs. lossy compression.
Was challenged to do a ABX test.
Done:
I admit I don't know how the math behind this works, but this tool says I can tell a difference with 100% confidence between FLAC and 320kbps MP3.
So maybe most people just have shitty sound hardware? I used a Fireface 800 with AKG K701 headphones.
Either way, eat this, haters!

Hahaha! I would be lying if I said I didn't recall our disagreement about DTS vs FLAC.
But this happened independently over on Blutopia and I while my main argument basically always was that I'm a data hoarder and like the originals, I found the result of this test actually surprising (because I've read millions of articles about how 320kbps MP3 is transparent), so I found it would be interesting to share and discuss.
The edgy words I used were for the giggles, not a malicious attack on you or anybody here.

That's probably definitely true. I only used the standard Adobe Audition encoder, maybe LAME would have done better I dunno.

That was hardly a disagreement Tom. Like I said at the time you won't be disappointed by full bit rate DTS. I thought you were referencing the conversation on the Armageddon thread.
