As they said, they only had the master, provided by universal, and then were able to get the missing scenes scanned. Provided by an archival copy that they locate with the help of universal by checking old documents of shipping lists. They (sadly) did not a complete scan.

Which one ? the Turbine or Universal ?

I would say: both.

The Turbine may be a new encoding, but not a complete new master, as turbine said. It is was universal delivered.

Yes, Universal, Turbine, all the same. I'm talking the main movie, not the extra footage.
I haven't watched it for years, and their on my TV it was painful to watch, worse on the computer.
Not complaining, at least the film is now complete again
Just wish for a 4K new scan without digital sharpening.

The book that came with the box says it‘s the print which the old TV-master used for airings on channels of the ARD and RTL-groups was created from before it was replaced by a remastered version from the international cut.
The 35mm-print was located somewhere in the Netherlands and they only scanned the German inserts/uncut scenes as mentioned before.

I just remembered that it was stated that someone at Universal found old shipping protocols, and that it was sent to storage:

Yeah, figures. And it does shows a bit with the grain that the elements aren't from the same source at all. But at least, Universal allowed this collection/release to happen, which is surprising. Normally, it would only happen if it was a cold day in Hell (the same could be said for any Disney stuff or WB), unless big money is here to be made.
BTW, Does any of you here owns this german collection anyway ? I got a torrent with the german cut without english incerts though, which I'm looking for, since I can do a special Bluray/iso that can both without quality & data loss. I can also Include a few bonuses on my own that are not available in the in neither the german collection nor the US retail one (although, some of them were available years ago as stand alone DVDs). If anyone can upload those incerts as uncompressed stand alone pieces, I'll be able to work that out.
Anybody interested ?
Also, should I start a new project thread for this ? Because it might feel like I'm hijacking someone else thread & project, which isn't my intention at all.

They also reconstructed as bonus the localized German text inserts...
I don't think so. Turbine was quite clear on the matter that they have nothing to do with the "stand alone" version (and that it's the standard version anyway), but also they're not interested to release one with the uncut version because of the licensed deal they made with Universal as a joint project for this limited release. Although, there's gonna be a new release from them with all the 8 films and bonus elements without the "Psycho File" book (which was only in german for the last release) and other stuff (posters, cards, etc) for 80 Euros instead. This one will probably be more interesting anyway.

The element not matching perfectly isn't a problem.
The over sharpened Universal master, with fake grain added is.
Though it look good from a long distance.

Point taken, the added grain isn't great. Can't this artificial added grain be removed without compromizing the image quality ? I wonder.
