The Shining UHD

I think the new UHD disc looks incredible, particularly on a TV with Dolby Vision. IMO the brightness and contrast levels are much more representative of a real film print than previous transfers. Far too many home video transfers are overly brightened beyond what they looked like in the cinema. I'm not at all a Shining color expert, but it looks very good and very film like to me and far superior to previous home video versions. I do wish the original mono track was included.

BTW, in my previous post I incorrectly assumed Barry Lyndon had an UHD release... I've just found out that the regular Criterion BD is the only way to watch the remaster. I wonder what are they waitin' for? That movie screams for a 4K release.

Hell, a lot of Kubrick movies scream for 4K. I'm waiting for A Clockwork Orange to be re-released lol (2019-10-21, 08:50 PM)LucasGodzilla Wrote:(2019-10-21, 03:16 PM)Weird Ed Wrote: BTW, in my previous post I incorrectly assumed Barry Lyndon had an UHD release... Yeah, I stand corrected, ALL Kubrick movies scream for 4K. Except for Fear and Desire. That movie screams "please, I wasn't really meant to be seen again, Stanley would be so mad if he knew!".

Warner will make a 4K Kubrick box. That's why I'm able to hold off and since I don't have a 4K display yet it makes it easier...
Kubrick boxset, Hitchcock proper restorations, LoA and the Bond films are the "have to get a 4K panel" titles. Though now that I finally have a good plasma I can't find a 4K panel that is affordable or able to fully best either my plasma or HDCRT.
