[Request] Rocky Horror faux stereo
#31
All Blu-ray editions worldwide contain both the UK and US cuts. And the Dolby 2.0 track is dual mono, however its botched where the end credit music is wrong. The mono track on the 2000 DVD doesn't have this problem.

I don't suppose anybody happens to have already synced said DVD mono? I might try to grab it myself if not.

EDIT: I'm wondering if this might be what's happening with the not-quite-right Blu-ray mono track...

Rocky Horror wiki Wrote:At the occasion of the film's 10th anniversary in 1985, "Super Heroes" was cut back into the film as part of the mono soundtrack. In 1990, it was restored in stereo, accompanied by "Science Fiction, Double Feature (Reprise)."

I'm wondering if maybe the wrong music on the Blu-ray might be to do with that: if they took it from a post-1985 US source, rather than an original UK source, then it'd have Super Heroes but without Science Fiction, Double Feature (Reprise) in the credits.

It might be a seamless branching choice, given that the Blu-ray has the US and UK cuts. Instead of encoding two versions of the credits, they've either chosen to or forgotten to account for the different audio and went with the more upbeat US credits music instead of the more downbeat original UK music.

I, for one, would greatly appreciate a rip of the old VHS. My tape and vcr are long gone and I haven’t been able to track down a digital copy with the ‘90s stereo soundtrack.

I still have the German "Silver Screen Edition" Laserdisc (bad quality, sourced from an unremastered theatrical print) and also the 1997 VHS "Anniversary Edition" in Digitally Remastered Hi-Fi Stereo. If there is any interest I could record a PCM track for you - PAL speed-up must be corrected to sync it on the Blu-ray.

P.S. It's the UK Version including "Superheroes" - always was in Germany!  Wink

Hahah I have a copy of that exact German LD en route. I'm guessing analogue audio only? Or does it have a 44.1 kHz PCM track?

I think I'm now completely lost with regard to all the different changes (and screw-ups) they've made over the years.

I noticed that the U.S. BDs list a 1.0 mono track, but UK BDs are 2.0 (original) mono.

Yes, it's digital. But mastered from an old source of bad quality (released on VHS before) same as other titles from that collection like the original Star Wars trilogy, Die Hard 1+2, Predator 1+2, etc. No good quality Laserdiscs at all compared to the US releases and also TESB, Die Hard 1+2 and Predator 1+2 censored like the German theatrical releases were. Rolleyes
Shame the remastered Anniversary Edition has only been released on VHS in 1997 - Laserdisc was dead in Germany, actually it was never very much alive.

Afaik it's one of Fox' ABC Blu-ray Discs all the same and has also been recycled by Disney for the 45th Anniversary re-release!?

I have the 2000 R1 DVD with the correct end credits music on the mono track. It's beyond my skill to attempt to sync it to the BD but I'll gladly provide the necessary files to anybody that wants them.

I actually have a copy in the post as well hahah. Whether we have the exact same disc or not is a different matter!

I will absolutely sync it although it's a matter of me having too many things to do and not enough time to do it all, so I can't promise it'll happen immediately. I think I'd like to watch it relatively soon though so I'll not put it off for too long.

I was just giving it a watch myself. The colours are so much better than the BD.

The BD looks dark and lifeless with everything 'white-balanced' for want of a better term. The DVD looks warm and vibrant. Also the BD is missing the blue gel effect when Frank N Furter visits Brad in his bed; it's just neutral white despite the red still being present for Janet's visit.
