I wonder if modern-English will become a "dead language" in 1000 years...

Of course English will become a dead language. Next World War Germany will win. (We tried and failed two times... But alle good things are three...) After that German will be the one and only language! Big Grin

As someone who is 3/4 Polish and after the way WWII was started by the Germans invading Poland first, I find your statement highly offensive, even if it's just a joke. And the way you guys "tried and failed" was by trying to exterminate everyone that is not like you. Despicable!

My comment was bouncing a joke of the "latin is a dead language" comment, because I think if English becomes a "dead language" it will be as a result of Chinese becoming the "worldwide" language. But this starts to go too off-topic and I won't say anything else here.

First: I never wanted to offend someone, so I apologize for that.
I hope no one in the world will ever be so f*cked up to start anything near to a WW again.
My "joke" was more in the direction that both WWs were startet by Germany, and both times we got defeated. (I am grateful for that.) It was never regarding the victims of the wars and the Nazi regime, just towards the stupidity to start a WW. The "all good things are three" proverb was the meant to be twist, because it was referring also to the "got defeated" part.

At the moment I am a strongly worried regarding the right winged thinking people getting more people under their wing in Germany, with the whole fugitive discussions and the problems with the situation and no real solutions. Also I think that the way Germany is handling our own history is no real way to LEARN.

Sure the Latin is dead joke is quite bouncing. As someone who had that dead language in school it is quite well known.

Maybe English, French, German, Spanish and all othet country based languages get obsolete in the distant future, and the future is something like the street lingo in Blade Runner: a language best of in one language.

Well on my part it is not off topic, because my point of view is part of myself, and does belong to a introduction myself thread.

BTW. : I have Dutch ancestors (I think my dad's father was Dutch) on the father side of the family tree.

No worries and I hope you didn't think I was too harsh... It's easy to misunderstand someone on a forum as there is no tone of voice, facial and body language cues, etc...

If your joke about "got defeated" twist part was what you meant, then that is "twisted" funny too, LOL Hope you guys don't start anything f*cked up like that again, just to be defeated again. I was born in the US, but I'm 3/4 Polish and grew up there from the time is I was 10 until almost 15 (92-early 97) and learned a lot of the "local" (read "European") cultures. I also studied the Latin "dead" language there, so I known what you mean about it being well known.

When it comes to how a nation handles their history, all nations are guilty of burying certain things and this leads to making the same mistake over and over again. Germany is not the only one, the Polish people do it too, it is definitely a problem here in the US as well. This is just stupid human nature, unfortunately.

Your idea about the "future" language of the planet being a "hybrid" of numerous current languages is very much in line with the history of the development of language and we have seen it evolve over the centuries. Even now languages are being combined all the time by newer generations that have their "origins" in one language while living in a "foreign" land. I see this here in the US with English and Spanish, English and Russian and numerous others.

Hope we are both "kosher" now, LOL Tongue

Don't simplify history like that. WW2 was a complex situation which shouldn't be brought down to short sentences like this.

I'm 100% Polish myself and I wasn't offended by the joke. Smile I never would by anything not aimed directly at me.

Maybe we need a politics subforum. ^^

I have a deep rooted bias against Germans, that my father and grandparents transferred to me as a result of family members dying in (or living through, which in some ways is actually worse) the concentration camps. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate or have a problem with all German people, (or anyone else for that matter) but when I see a statement like that, my emotional side takes over my logical brain and maybe I "flew off the handle" a little. Again, sorry if I came off harsh and I see that MrBrown was just making a joke.

You are also right that this was an over simplification of history. There was a LOT more involved and, honestly, if the Germans had not invaded, then the Russians would have and, either way, most of the rest of history would have been similar. There were numerous other factors involved in the events leading to a world wide war and, again, you're right that maybe we need a "political" sub-forum for that, as to not hijack MrBrown's thread.

Please no political forum. I loved to just keep this place about movie (and TV) projects and movies themselves. There are plenty of political forums out there for people to use. I would hate for this place to be overwhelmed with the garbage that comes with political discussions. We are all adults here and hopefully we can keep the discussion to what this forum was meant to be about. (Shudders to think of the OT's Off Topic)

I feel this was just a simple misunderstanding
