Only seen comparisons on caps-a holic vs 2D BD; obvious increase in resolution, but grain is almost gone, and I personally prefer BD color grading (don't know if it's due to a wrong HDR-to-SDR conversion, tough).

I don't know why there'd be an HDR-to-SDR conversion. Surely, for screenshots, both would be converted to RGB.

I'm fact, converting UHD content to RGB is something I have been wondering about. Obviously, when going straight from UHD to standard HD, avoiding a conversion to RGB and back is desirable; but for many of our projects, going to RGB is probably inevitable. (Of course, this probably belongs in another thread...)

HDR images look somewhat "flat" when viewed on sRGB SDR monitors. The HDR to SDR conversion is really a PQ to 2.4 gamma conversion, and needed unless you're viewing screenshots on a display that is HDR and uses the PQ EOTF.

So does that mean that after the video has been successfully decoded one can simply call ConvertToRGB() (or whatever non-AviSynth equivalent) and proceed as normal? What I'm interested in establishing is a series of steps that project makers might take it they want to convert UHD to RGB and work with it in an NLE (or whatever) as they always have.

The thing I like of UHD is higher resolution - this can be a clue of a new scan, along with slight difference in frame size/position.

But I don't like the colors, in particular white is not... white anymore - again, taking in account only those screenshots.

I know; the fact white is not "white" is not format related; it could be the directors' choice, delibarate color correction, a byproduct of who knows what conversion... who knows? Still, if I can choose, I'd like to get UHD resolution with BD colors - let's call it the lesser of two evils!
About grain... still got to decide if UHD has it right due to its resolution, or it was simply scrubbed away!

You mean the 3D Blu or the 2D Blu?

The grain seems like it was managed but not too heavily for the most part (remember that this was shot on a fine grain film stock with bright lighting). The exception seems to be the optical composites, which show a jarring reduction in grain vs the other footage.
