Best way to convert .m4v to .mp4 losslessly?
#1
Is Handbrake a good tool for doing a conversion from .m4v to .mp4 or is there a better route to consider?

Thanks in advance.

Is the m4v copy protected?

Otherwise just rename the file extension. M4v and mp4 are almost the same thing as long as the m4v is not copy protected. Its just metadata differences, the compression is the same.

The DRM has been removed from it. I will give your suggestion a try. Thanks PDB.

You should be able to repack it with something like YAMB, MP4Box or any of a number of free programs (check out VideoHelp.com).

Personally, I'd just use MKVToolNix and repack it as an MKV file. It's a bit more modern, compatible with most devices (that aren't made by Apple, I assume) and can read most containers already.

What I want is to take the films I have and create 1 bluray so turning them in to MKV files doesn't solve that. Thank you for the suggestion though, it is appreciated.

But if that's the case, then converting the files to .mp4 doesn't help you much. Tsmuxer allows demuxing files, it should be able to handle .m4v

TSmuxer did not like them at all.

Try BD Rebuilder. It will probably want to re-encode since there is no guarantee that the .m4v file meets BD specifications, but it will take care of the job.

If BD-RB doesn't like your .m4v, seriously, try repacking as .MKV THEN try TSMuxer/BD-RB.

If that were the goal, after MKVToolnix, you could use MKVExtractGUI2 which uses ToolNix's components.
