Ghost in the Shell
#21
I've never seen the HDTV cap of Ghost in the Shell but I have a feeling it's the same master as was on Netflix as it isn't windowboxed like all other Blu Ray releases.

The HDTV cap seems a different master than any ive seen released. it leens to much towards magenta, (which is a problem with alot of old japanese masters) the 35mm print I saw had alot more of a teal vibe.
It does seem to contain more detail, but it's mostly noise in my opinion brought on by the artificial sharpening.
At that it was my go to version for a long time.
The sub's are the best ive seen also.

I didn't know such things existed at the time of DVDs

You had me thinking that what I've been calling HDTV is actually an official WMV9 release, but it probably isn't.
The version I'm referring to is called 'PSNR' and I've seen it referred to as HDTV. I believe its source WAS originally passed around in WVC1 format.  The only reason I continue to believe it is from a TV source is that there is apparent logo removal.

The 720p version is on BakaBT (which still seems to have more detail than 1080p BD screencaps), but about as much as the 1080p version from the same source (which has less edge enhancement and more grain).

I know I had both at one time. When I get a chance I'll check which I kept.

IIRC, the 1080p was ALSO an encoding from the same master source, but was deinterlaced improperly giving it more artifacts than the 720p version.

The release with the interlaced artifacts is probably the 1080i 'bonus feature' from the GITS 2.0 blu.

I doubt it, that release predates GitS 2.0.

Anyone else having problems seeing the pics?
