Frankly, I asked the same myself before starting the project
 Alien: color wise, even if it seems the same, quite some shots are different; I also did a comparison between yours and mine, so I'm sure about this - of course, if some are different, some others are pretty the same; also, I used the D-Theater as main source (for about 85% of the shots), hence image is less cropped than BD. EDIT: comparison between your and mine: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/205721 - they are quite different to my eyes, both color and frame wise. Aliens: I made some comparisons between the two different laserdisc versions (THX and PAL UK) and, again, some scenes are the same, some others are not... I can't say the PAL UK laserdiscs have the *right* colors, as I can't say the same about the THX NTSC US ones. What I can say they are different; can't say either they are "dramatically" different, because this is not the case, but they are. And, at the end, I wanted to do Alien 3 and Resurrection, so I thought to give the first two films the same treatment - you know, it's not ethical to release just half of the saga!  Also, I think it's better to have more versions to chose from... the more, the merrier!
