You don't. They're publicity stills DNRed to look 3D.

They quite match the trailer I've seen, to be honest.

Terminator 2 3D will most likely be degrained for the 3D conversion to be more effective, I believe this was the case for Titanic?

Anyway back on topic. Don't hold your breath for a new BTTF scan  Cry

I'm confused. Reliable reviews say that blu-rays are pretty much the limit of what the film stock and optical effects could possibly be restored to.

Short of going back to all the camera negatives and digitally reconstructing every effects shot, there's likely little that can be done to improve these films.

Only George Lucas is THAT crazy.

The BTTF blu use a pretty old HD master. A newer scan with new equipment at a higher resolution (4k or higher) would yield a better result even at 1080p. It's something to do with nyquist frequencies and oversampling (which I know about but don't really understand). 4k/hdr may not necessarily reveal any more picture information but could improve grain structure and should improve saturation and latitude (provided they don't go overboard on the hdr). But even then you'll probably be lumbered with a bobbins atmos track.

Ah, okay. I was looking at the 25th Anniv set which is really cheap right now.
After reading a positive review I was leaning towards keeping my DVDs because it sounds like better clarity actually makes the movie look worse. Soft film stock, optical effects, etc.

Can I get an explanation of the bobbins atmos comment? I'm assuming you mean a DD Atmos track. Are they a step backwards?
I don't have an Atmos system and people seem to go gooey for those tracks. I'm suspicious that there's even a perceptible difference.

How do you guys feel about the DCP rip of Back To The Future? It has less DNR and a non-distorted AR, from what I understand.

Here's a comparison: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x=524...&i=12&go=1

The DCP plus Laserdisc PCM is the best picture and sound you can get for BTTF on video IMO

I saw BTTF on 35mm and remember being impressed with how good the opticals looked (vistavision plates), even the slightly wonky 'fading hand' shot. If it's grainy let it be grainy.
The atmos comment is purely down to the fact that as a further remix it's yet another step away from the original soundtrack, obviously if they chose to include the original mix then that's fine. Unfortunately until 4k blus are cracked there can be no remuxing so what's on the disc is what you get.
The 'DCP' is the best we have ATM, there's also a Hi-Vision laserdisc which may be interesting but as far as I know there's only one person who's able to cap Hi-Vision and he's still sorting out his rig.
