[Released] Harry Potter saga - open matte
Damn, if they were showing extended versions we missed out on 1 and 2 ?

Awesome on the new sources!

Will you be releasing HP1 soon, or are you planning to release all at once?

About possible extended edition: after I've seen few of the deleted scenes reinstated in the open matte broadcast, they look very nice and not "out of the place"; so, I think there could be a green light! Wink

Actually there are only SD versions on my BDs, so I could do that
IF
someone would send me all the deleted/extended scenes in HD (they are listed here: https://fanrestore.com/thread-1507.html)
AND
if someone would send me the related missing audio/subs tracks - mainly French, German, Spanish (as I have English on BD and DVD and Italian on DVD, and some other languages, different for any DVD)
AND
I could find an easy way to know where each scene should be placed - an online guide would do.

And no problems with missing 1 & 2, as I'm pretty sure the extended scenes were cropped - at least, they were on 6 and 7; still, if someone could confirm/deny that, it will be a nice info.

About release date: as I'm working not in a linear fashion, hopping here and there due to source availability and new captures kindly sent me from our great helpers, I thought to finish'em all, and release them one after the other - it would take two days to seed one BD-50, so a bit more than two weeks; after seeded the first one to get around 10 seeders, I'll swap to the next one, and so on.

Another reason is that, for any reason, I'll find something to correct in a previously released film, I should re-upload it, and it would be a nightmare to have various V1, V2 etc. Eek ETA is few weeks - two or three max - unless a spell can speed up the work! Big Grin

Still downloading Freeform HP7.

But HP6 is in the vault now, and, as it contains the first minutes of HP7, I decided to give it a try... and... WOW! In comparison to old version - even if both are 720p - it's another world!

Nova HD was the old 720p, untouched, just bicubic resize to 1080p; the other is Freeform 720p, mpeg2 source at 13.3mbps (14.7mbps max) - and it shows - enhanced, delogo, magicup to 1080p, grain plate; the former helped to get rid of the logo of the latter.
Judge for yourself: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/211250 - waiting for your comments!

Note: during this comparison, I noted that, at the contrary of previous films, the cropped shots on HP 7 (which amount at around 98%, give or take) has also less details on top and bottom... so, it would be better to get the BD - higher bitrate, effective 800p image, crop it and upscale to 1080p. Bad thing is, even if most shots are centered, there are many offset, so I should check the movie shot by shot... Eek

Wow, freeform does look miles and miles better, and I still can't believe Nova was HD.

Were there freeform captures of the first 4 films as well? Are they even needed?

Maybe 3 and 4; 3 *may* be needed, as there is only one source - with two usually it's possible to get some more details and less noise, but using the same resolution; using one 1920x1080 and one upscaled 1280x720, don't know results... 4 1080i is downloading, so no need for it.

Nova HD file is 720p but re-encoded... a 1.8mbps AVC can't surely beat a 13+mbps MPEG2!

Right now I'm working on 7, finding the best cropping points. It will take some time...

Looks as if 3 and 4 won't air again until jun 5 and 7th. Just a heads up idk if that fits in your timetable. And searching through the listings I don't see 1 and 2 for the foreseeable future

Looking good - I will say though, some textures and contrast is better preserved on the nova - particularly Mrs. Weasley in shot 4

@ OperatorIV: first of all, welcome aboard, and many thanks for the Freeform captures!

Well, I think that the work will go on for a week at least, so waiting eventually for HP 3 to mix it with the only source I have is feasible. Anyway, getting HP 3, 4, 5 - as 6, 7, 8 are safely held in my HP vault Wink - would be beneficial to know where placing the extended/deleted scenes - for the extended version side project, you know... speaking of which, the deleted scenes (still to check if all are included) are all cropped, so it will be quite easy to recreate them using the HD ones from BDs.
EDIT: The unfinished shots are not included (but I'm pretty sure to be able to fix some of the ones with green screen); also, THEY ARE ALL IMPORTANT as they have the English 5.1 track that, while on BD/DVD it's only 2.0!

@ nightstalkerpoet: agree, in few instances, Nova has some more details than Freeform, but they are scarce in comparison of the ones when the contrary is true. I also tried to mix them with different percentages, but the overall picture is softer than the single Freeform.

The easy solution is to use Freeform as main source, with Nova as second for logo removal, and eventually the BD for missing shots near commercial breaks. The best solution, though, would be to replace the cropped shots (97/98% of the movie) with upscaled cropped BD, as it has a better resolution and more lines top and bottom, but it's a very hard work - even if often the frame is perfectly centered, there are many scenes which are framed left or right, with various framing... I compared the fullscreen with 11 different framing from BD (5 left, center, 5 right) and not always there was a perfect fit; it does mean that there are more than 11 frame settings - probably 15 or 21 - and it will take a looong time to check the whole movie... going to find a method to do that in an automagically way!

Worked all day on HP 2; with the second source kindly captured by babouin, the overall quality is raised; main source now is this second capture, but a lot of glitches had to be fixed; first version was used mainly to remove logo, hard subs, promo overlaid, and glitches; we now have also about 24000 more pixels, a "whopping" 1% more image! Big Grin

The work was hard, if you want to spend 4 minutes to watch glitches and fixes, here you are: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5ohoed - have fun!

Our new friend OperatorIV will capture HP 3, 4, 5 next week; most probably, they will be the extended editions, so the video will be used as guideline, and AC3 5.1 audio needed for the extended scenes, to integrate to PCM/DTS-HD MA tracks of the theatrical cuts.

Summary:

HP 1: ready
HP 2: ready
HP 3: ready - but I'll wait for second source to see if video could be improved a bit
HP 4: second source ready, have to work on it
HP 5: ready - but I'll wait for second source to see if video could be improved a bit
HP 6: waiting for the second source
HP 7: if not using BD as source, it could be ready soon
HP 8: second source downloaded, have to work on it

Great work, spoRv. Man, these annoying commercials blending in half of the screen remember me why I'm not seeing movies on TV anymore...
